You guys are lucky over there....Over here Kwinana run right to the ANDRA rules which is 12.99 for open cars (according to the rules on their website)!

Think I'll have to have indepth discussions with Phil about his excellent cage set-up...

Nice footage on Youtube Acecob!!!

Philm 11-01-2007 08:01 AM

Flexible rules

ETs between 12.99 and 11.00 open top cars require a 4 point cage/ full width roll bar, 2 rear stays and side intrusion bars.

ETS 10.99 and faster a full 6 point cage and all safety equipment required.

I have the Andra rule book if some wants to read it.

At wsid the scruteneers are not to sure on some of the rules expecially with open top cars. They will pull you up and will ban you when you get into the 11s

Greg (LS1 Cobra) also had a run and he has no roll bar at all, in scruteneering they really didn't know what to do, but he got thru, and had a ball as well.

Also when you run 10.99 with full fibreglass boby you need the suits etc. Well over $5000 to buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to launch it pretty tamely though, and lots of guys would come up and say, "you need to rev it more and dump the clutch", but I also had to drive it home which many of those guys didn't have to worry about... I found a technique that worked and just went with it. To get the shifts right, I had a big shift light that was right in front of my face and as soon as I saw it flash, I'd shift.

Funny thing is, I used to think that I was changing gears lightning fast, that is until I saw the video..... It almost looked like I was driving to Coles to get the groceries

Hi Plums
When were you in Darwin racing the LX?

Plums 11-01-2007 09:23 PM

I was in Darwin from 95 to 2002. I raced the Torana most of the years I was up there....

We can run with our SFI 342A/5 FIA 8856/2000 standard suits up to 10 secs then anything below 10 we need to also use the full Nomex underware and we can then go quicker not that I ever will. We also have to wear arm restraints. We also had to get Unlimited licences for what reason I don't know.

You have hit the nail on the head, the 2 things that make it tough for cobras are thay are 1. Open top and 2. fiberglass.

The first meet with the car fully teched the Andra officials on site knew of the car as there was much discussion as to whether they should pass it reguardless.

Andra seam to have very tough rules when I can circuit race under cams with a long sleeve t shirt and Jeans, no roll bar. Head to a 90 degree turn at 200kms +.

That is why we also use all the gear when ever the car is on a track.

Philm 11-02-2007 04:10 AM

Who Is up for a run

Who is interested in a run next wednesday at WSID, Last wednesday there were about 15 minis in a row and they went off in pairs.

It would be awsome if we could get about 10 or so of us and we can line up together and then run together.

HI Alffie,
Rear is ok so far, but I am not pushing it hard at all.

I did have an interesting thing happen, in the burn out I had only one wheel spin, I have tried since on the street and I get 2 black marks.

I think the LSD is set to light.
