Everyone goes out there to have fun and 'better' their own times, you can do that at any club or open trackday. The Nationals is about competion, always has been. If you are out there to better your own times, you are competing against yourself, so why not against a bunch of other guys or their machines as well?
It's all fun, just 'less' fun going out there knowing your competition has been taken away! As the club has evolved and with it the cars and technology, the organisers have always looking for ways to accomodate everyones needs. Sometimes you gotta wonder what they're thinking. This thread started with the concern about class 3. Rather than start a new thread, I'm gonna hijack and have a whinge about Class 1. As I said earlier, its all fun, but a lot less fun when you run 15" street tyres, low tech gear, but when you freshen up your 60's 289 or 302 you tickle the ports or install a cam, that you get penalized and get bumped up to a class that runs sticky tyres and has unlimited brake and engine mods. Isn't that what Tickford did? They qualify for Class 1. It just came out of a factory, not my garage. Kinda takes the thrill away when your grouped with cars that have way more advantage than what your little bump stick gives. Now I'm started, might as well have a say about the show n shine. Each states president will select 5 cars to represent that state. How's he going to know what's out in the country areas. It'll be capital city cars selected every time. Is your club Cobra Car Club of Vic, NSW QLD or Cobra Car Club of Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast? Can't see this one working. There's a couple of nice cars in Queanbeyan and Grenfell, that I'll bet aren't in the NSW pres sights. |
Show & dull
David,
I agree with you 100% on the show and shine. NSW about 50 entants.. 5 cars nominated 10% of the field SA about 3 entrants 5 cars nominated 170% of the field. This will never work, actually makes me angry that this was put forward without consultation of the supporters or members, disgraceful. You have to remember that the show and shine is probably the premier event for 50% of the field. Phil |
My Northern Territory car should get a look in then, I might even win best in NT at the nationals (Yes Phil, I want the plastic)
|
What class would a stock SVT 4.6 supercharged Cobra be in?
Cheers Greg |

David i actually heard that there are 6 cars coming from the NT? Thay are all painted but yours, and all have windsors in there engine bays so you might be out of contention:eek::eek: If this is the case ill make sure we pack you some plastic before we leave:3DSMILE::3DSMILE::3DSMILE: |

Thanks Philm wasn't sure as the motor is standard configuration as per manufacture. I will miss this year but maybe next year.
Cheers Greg |
Where do I stand then??
They should create a new class just for me!:D
Street class 7000 cc and over. Think about it.....get rid of the Goodyears, standard engine, standard brakes, standard suspension, single carby, 15 in diameter, etc......maybe I should buck and scream, get this new class happening and come first in every event! I get a lousy set of Goodyears and get bumped up to open!:JEKYLHYDE I got half a chance on the drags and hill climb, but get whipped on the sprints! Still love the whole Nationals thing though, can't wait. See you all there. Stef |
Your car Steph, is one I am looking forward to seeing.
|
David,
I think (maybe) unknowingly you are in the right place. I have run 15's for the last few years, and for me the biggest mod to these cars is tyres. I'm not that concerned running against cubes, blowers, HP or any capacity, but tyres on these cars is the biggest mod, and seemingly given lower ranking than HP and capacity. All that has been said is good input. I give the organisers great credit, it's job and a commitments I don't have at this point. So anyone who is willing to spend good time getting an event together where we can all go for a blast and share tales at the bar gets a big hat's off from me. Will I run 15's again this year.... let's wait and see  Cameron |
Spot on
Cameron,
seems that 17" envy is waning. Perhaps we could arrange a 17" timeshare:D For mine, you on 15's is barely enough handicap:3DSMILE: Richard |
Good to see we are all looking forward to the Nationals and as one of the commitee members I have to accept praise & or criticism for the event. In brief what I can assure you off was that we discussed at length the make up of various catergories as this was a hot topic and decided we can't change it from last year as there wasn't sufficient notice given.
The show and shine was revamped to enable a quicker turn around from photo shoot to race mode as opinion's were aired in the past about "not enough race time" My suggestion if you feel that strongly about an issue be prepared to make the difference and get involved. When the 1st commitee meeting was held we had 10 people show up now we are down to 5. Ask "not what will the club do for me but what can i do to make a difference". Don't fear risks, ride them! |
Well said Don!
:)
Stef |
Thanks for the info Don. I can understand the decision and the complexity of making any changes.
You guys are bloody heroes getting something like this organised and running as well as you do. Even though we don't say it enough, we all really appreciate it. I've only got one more thing to say... BRING IT ON!!! :D |

I race a 2 ltr turbo with the car club and it puts me in the class with the V8's as long as we get out there and have some fun thats all that matters. The only good thing to come out of guys using these chevy things is the rivalry Ford V Holchev |

If the polishing lads are concerned the president of their club could have overlooked their glistening pride and joy, perhaps have state-based Show and Shine weekends prior to the Nationals to sift the talent.
I think I may use the current format for a sleep-in. Not as though I won't see enough cobras that weekend anyway! R. |
