Hi guys,

I thought it was absolutely crap!!!!

However, Top Gear is essentially a franchise with strict guidelines on what has to be delivered and more importantly how you go about delivering it.

I grew up up with Clarkson and Hammond (he was our local radio presenter) and their humour is pretty much up there.

Unfortunately (and as expected) the Aussie stand ins were no where near the UK act.

Its annoying that we have now lost Top Gear UK on free to air as a result (even though it was over six months old).

Good luck to the Aussie show - they need it!

The level of video photography on teh UK show was exceptional.

Tenrocca 10-06-2008 05:40 AM

Oooops - it got worse. Couldnt even watch it all tonight - half way and gave up. Sorry - unfunny and pretty lame. :(

Harrymac 10-06-2008 07:03 AM

The second show has just finished???????......Ummm, Yeah!, maybe next week.
The ideas to entertain us weren't too bad - comparing the utes and looking for future hearse's. The two dark hair guys can make it (with a little more practice)

But!!!, the blonde bloke needs to go, with his over exaggerated arm movements, pretend smile and no ability whatsoever of making eye contact with the camera or others on the show. The lead for the show needs to be a Larrikin/Hoon 'THAT LOVE CARS' and doesn't know the meaning of - Political Correctness.
I hope they find one soon, Because I am not looking forward to next weeks show.

Harrymac.

Honestly I thought it was a little better than the first show... I was a bit dissapointed that the Ford vs Holden segment was lame. I had hoped for some good tests, Handling, fuel economy, or maybe even towing. Third show is a charm........:JEKYLHYDE

gene giambona 10-06-2008 11:48 AM

A US version of Top Gear is also in the works. I have a bad feeling it may fail miserably like this Aussie copy. :JEKYLHYDE

I have to agree on the lame Ford / Holden review apples for apples please at least they should have both been V8's. Argue over the winner at least.

It's hard to top the UK show so why not create our own Aussie car show, these TV franchise shows never work, The office, Kath & Kim what next....

Where the hell did they get the rent a crowd from, they look more un impressed than us, at least put a bit of eye candy in the front row even if you have to pay them.

Star of the show was the RHD GT40 yes please, I'll make room in the shed for one of those right now.

Merv and Sharon 10-06-2008 06:56 PM

I have heard that the waiting time to be in the audience in the UK version is now 25 years! Sign up the kids and Clarkson should live so long. I thought that episode 2 of the OZ version was certainly better in terms of the photography and the idea in the 'challenge'. Jury is still out for me. Still think that the little guy and the cartoonist are miscast.

Regardless of opinion, every car nut I know seems to be watching it!

steeler 10-07-2008 12:15 AM

I think we will keep watching it, its all that's on on Monday night anyway, lets give 'em some support, things may pick up, if viewer numbers do, and the budget improves. :)

NASSTY 10-07-2008 12:42 AM

The blond host has to go. They should put a pic of him on the "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?" board on next week's show.

The other two are ok. They just need more time to settle in to their roles 'cause they're trying too hard at the moment.

Cheers

Harrymac 10-07-2008 02:51 AM

Well said 'Nasty', at the moment the show looks like it was designed by a government 'COMMITTEE THAT HAS JUST FINISHED WRITING THE NEW HOON LAWS'.......................

Hey COBBER!! YOU COULD FIT 10 GT40's in that shed of yours and still have room for your Cobra and the mystery car under the tarp?????.

I bet the first series of 'TOP GEAR' is already in the can, we can only hope it becomes watchable.

Harrymac.

*Cobber* 10-07-2008 04:54 AM

I agree don't hang em yet, they will pull the show finnished or not and we will end up with more re runs of M*A*S*H or CSI somethig or other.

At least it's show about one of our favourite things CARS.

Harry,
10 GT40's? You buy em I'll find room for em.

Harrymac 10-07-2008 05:08 AM

Thanks Andy,

I was wondering where I could store them, I shall order them tomorrow.
Can I leave the Veyhron there as well, it's OK if you want to use it on occasion.

Cheers,

Harry.

Simple desparation for some sort of automotive entertainment amongst the footy shows and cooking shows and murder/cop shows and home improvement shows keeps me watching. I desperately hope aussie top gear gets better.
Alas, theford/holden "shootout" was a supermarket carpark wizzo ! The GT 40 drive was a bit lame too. I think a power slide is less punishing than a spinout and stall. (not very entertaining) What happened to Peter Wherett and Torque ? That was better.

Mmm loved the GT segment.

Made me want to get out in the GT40 of mine - even a better car..**)

Baz,

Ooooh no not the McDonald's add for an hour..

I know the words off by heart. It took a few days to make the add. My part was just over half a day.

It's a great program that is going ahead leaps and bounds. Lots of young students sign up for it.

Bernie,

I'm sorry I missed you at Wakefield. I was there Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday from about 12 md. Apparently you left on Saturday afternoon.

Maybe next year with the red 40. I will definately have my new car there, providing it a certain NSW Government Dept., can get their act into gear and allocate my VIN No. by then.

Judging from the lack of comments for the TOP GEAR Show number 3, not many people watched it.
I started to watch it, but after 15 minutes I had - had enough - and went out into the garage to play.

I have a 'Theory' :-(
The Pommie presenters, (Clarkson, May & Hammond) came to Australia to interview possible Aussie presenters and came up with this lot to host the show, they then went back home, took a copy of the shows and play them for their friends and mates - and have a great old laugh with a few ciders on a Friday night.

(The Bastards!!!!!!!*^#@?<~)

It is probably revenge for sending them Prisoner, Skippy the Bush Kangeroo and Matlock Police, Geezzz!! we are paying for it now.

Merv and Sharon 10-15-2008 02:55 AM

Apparently the ratings went through the floor. It was the highest rating SBS program and killed everything else on that night, or any night - now it is back to normal SBS ratings. Still it IS Australian and it IS about cars....
