Tom - leave this key alone:

Makes your posts bloody hard to read with the unnecessary capitalisation.

Phil

Don't let one tossers coments sour your Cobra owning experience

Andrew

Any idea what your Cobra weighs?

Tenrocca 11-28-2008 03:52 PM

 Ive only weighed the tank straps Bretty.

Right now Id guess its definately less then 1000kgs .......no screen, seats, dash, roll bar, lights etc etc. How much does 4 litres of taupe paint weigh?

ok hows that, seems like you need to invest in some glasses, but point taken.

Beejay 11-28-2008 10:58 PM

Tomcat,

How much would a 400 kW Windsor be worth to put together?

A stock 6L Ls Chev with a cam seems to be common in the Cobras these days, makes 300 kW + at the wheels.

Why is it that half the Ford hot rods have Chevs fitted?

Ben

Ben, In a pre GM life I was going to build a 393W stroker. It was going to cost me approx $15K to make about 400Kw. (536hp)

However, If I was able to register a 500hp Windsor engine today I would build a clevor using CHI heads.

see results here: http://www.chiheads.com/our_results.php

and look for the 515 Hp 470 Ft/lbs Pump Gas Terror about half way down the page.

xmas party done and dusted

it was one of the hottest and humid days weve had with storms threatening allround, terrible for racing, 30 to 40 cars raced of all kinds, classic, hot rods, utes, race cars, late model stuff and my cobra. the format was race as many passes as you want with whoever you come up against. my first pass with the new engine was a 11.5, 118mph with a bad reaction time of .654, if i had of cut a .2 it would have been an 11.1. my car with me in it weighs 1300kgs.im pretty happy with that. the heat sapped at least 2 to 3 tenths off eve
rybodys times. the small block windsor with only a solid roller ''touring ''cam smoked all comers except my mates 408 windsor 68 mustang running nos and transbrake, its a weapon, does 10 flat street regd. the rmc cobra performed beautifully all day and i later pulled a 121mph but a slower time which means with cold air and a good reaction time and a perfect gear change [ my tachos not working ] its got a 10 in it, now im wondering why i didnt put a race roller in it. at the end of the day the 2 windsors retired underfeated against blown ,turboed, nos equiped cars,454 chevys. HOOK LINE WINDSOR.

alffie 11-30-2008 12:00 AM

Your .6 reaction didnt take any time of your ET, good to see 121mph though!

Gav 11-30-2008 03:43 AM

Alfie is right. A 0.2 reation would have given you a red light. A 0.4 is a perfect reaction.
Your ET begins from when you break the timing light at the start line. Your reaction time only comes into play when racing against someone else.
Low 11's are nothing to sneeze at, well done.

Ben, the only decent iron a chevy freak can find is a........ FORD

Tenrocca 11-30-2008 02:15 PM

Careful Ben - these ford boys take themselves VERY seriously.....When you spend as much as they have to to get decent power thats understandable. :)

boxhead 11-30-2008 04:31 PM

Until we see a time slip with a name or rego number it did not happen.

Only need to spend it once.

Boys,
I Agree That The New LS Series Engines Make Good Power Without Much Modifications.

Just Enjoy Every Minute You Drive It, Cause You Will Only Get a Few:D

Ford Iron Tough, 360RWKW 3 Nationals 2 Shelby Feasts And 35, 11 And Low 12 Second Passes On The 1/4, Plus Many Hours Possing On The Street.

Cheap power in the long run boys.

boxhead 11-30-2008 05:21 PM

Thanks Andrew,

I can still heard Peter G shouting out "Mizzi you are a disgrace" at the nationals when you guys were pushing my car.

Mates who said that!

Phil

hewey 11-30-2008 08:08 PM

The grinder was in the other hand..... (Tenrocca was taking the photo me thinks.....)

Rebel1 12-01-2008 12:17 AM

hey gav, you mustnt have raced for awhile or your track is still under the old system. nearly all tracks in aus including ours operate at 0000 reaction time not 0.4 and have done so for about a year to bring us inline with the us, willowbank is the only major track i think that has not changed yet.
im not sure when you say low 11s are nothing to sneeze at, to take it as a compliment or a put down tomcat.
