I did not worry about plastic as my shell sat in the Alice Springs sun for about 2 years before it went into the shed (I think this is what caused sill to warp - as it was sitting on a shipping pallet)

Those sanding boards look great. Where did you get them from? What sort of $$$

I got them rom these guys when the dollar was a little better:

I figured they were a worthwhile investment if I was going to have a decent go at it.

Les is spot on about the bog settle. There was one particular spot on the door where I had to fill a fair bit (months ago now) and at the time i got it perfectly flat - checked it again last week and it definately had a bit of a woof in it that needed another skim and sand. I put her outside every hot day I can (which probably hasnt been enough yet). The body is 3 and a half years old now.

Cheers :)

Hi Sambo, I have been speaking with Kanga on some tune stuff, I didnt know he was Black with Silver. Will be talking to him some more, thanks for the heads up.

Thank you all for the various tips - I looked at my CR Fibreglass Body with a renewed micro inspection.

MY untrained eye didnt spot any pin holes, but I did notice my bonnet sits a bit high at the front, I'll have to look in to that a bit more.

Andrew and Dave - regarding the sills - do you mean the top of the doors? Or am I off-track?

Rgds

Gregg

Nope - under the doors (would really be hidden by sidepipes anyway I suppose) get down low near the front gaurd and look towards the back of the car - youll see what we mean. I had mine upsidedown in a buck for a couple of months while I worked on the undercar. You wont find any voids under the gel coat till you start whacking\sanding and flling.

These body guys earn their money. I have spent months on mine just to get it to where it is now.

Cheers

Don't go thinkin I'm any expert. A long time good mate of mine is a pro painter. Used to paint and touch up luxury sedans etc. An artist with a paint gun.

He's painted a few cobras and recently finished a corvette repaint for a very fussy client. He "sees" and "feels" things that most of us can't.

I once visited him during a "quick and nasty" as he calls some paint jobs ( mostly track cars) and asked why he was ready for top coat when it appeared to me to have some high spots.

His comment was that the job had some high spots because the client wanted the car in a hurry, but that the high spots would disappear after a few months. He was right, after 6 months the high spots had completely gone.

I just repeat what he has taught me over the years.

What he said, and yes, my side pipes have just about hidden the sills anyway.
