Thanks all for the input. Looks like the vote is: If the engineering of the finished car is of a comparable standard, then the Shelby is the preferred investment, given a reasonably close (within 10%) purchase price. There is no doubt a 100% Kirkham car, finished by an excellent builder is a piece of engineering art. So please don't take this as a negative on the Kirkham cars, I love them too. Seems I bought my cobra too soon (RMC 1996) there are so many "improved" versions out there. I'm still modifying and building mine today. I'll finish it eventually (then the fuel will run out) ha ha ha

The base Kirkham has billet aluminum suspension pieces (not to be confused with their one off billet aluminum frame car). It is a rather expensive option to get the original style suspension on the Kirkham.
The CSX4000 suspension is probably more like the original cobras, but is certainly not indentical to the original. Both CSX4000 and Kirkham have modern brakes, but I believe they are from different manufacturers. Quote:

mate, you guys need a medal if youve been building a cobra for 13 years and its still not finished. i spent 11 years rebuilding an xy 347 custom ute and nearly chucked it in a couple of times untill the wife said take the money and finish it whatever it costs, that got me motivated. nothing wrong with an rmc, harrisons are copied off them arent they. just finish em cos youre a long time dead. tomcat

TomCat, Thanks for the encouragement. I've 'only' been building for 10 years. I bought the RMC in a panic when I heard the company was being sold. The RMC was the next best thing from the Robnel at the time and cheaper with equal structual quality. ( didn't matter anyway ) and I was in the finishing stages of a 9 year restoration of a Mustang for a cousin so the cobra sat for 3 years while I finished the mustang and collected bits for the cobra. Suprising how many of those bits have run out of warranty or have been replaced. A lot of my innovations have been discovered by others too. ha ha ha
