Identify windsor build year

Can anyone help me identify the build year of my Mustang 302.
I need to install a new dizzy as the original is gone and the jigger that's in it is from a Commodore apparently.
The drama is that the dizzy shaft lengths changed from 1993 to 94 and i've been told mine's and '94..........just want to be sure before I blow my dough.
I read somewhere that the engine numbers are on the block beside the starter so they read; 29ET7E CAS, then nearby also 9EI0.
Any help greatly appreciated

I thought that I had nailed this topic Greg but it is elusive as the numbers around the motor and its components are indicative of the design date not necessarily the actual build date of the motor. If you have access the UK Kitcars mag "Cobra" issue 15 has a good article on Ford motor dating. The block or casting number is usually up under the starter motor - mean under it and the starter may need to be removed to see it easily. There will also be a number on the heads.

Like Merv, I thought the decoding of Ford part numbers would give me an idea of engine year. However, it appears that part numbers and casting numbers reflect the original design (or redesign) date rather than the manufacture date.

There was a new generation of Mustangs in ’94 and there was also some changes to the v8 powerplant. The easiest way to determine the difference is visually (assuming all original parts). A couple of sites (below) might help.

According to howstuffworks, an EEC V (as opposed to the 87-93 EEC IV) may signify the newer model, similarly the flatter intake.

Once I was sure mine was from the earlier model, I used the pin out diagrams for the EEC from the Haynes manual to narrow it down to a year. These changed (ever so slightly) over the course of the 87-93 period, but just enough to identify differences.

Of course, all this assumes all the parts that you have are from the same donor vehicle!!

1994 Ford Mustang Engines
The GT's venerable 5.0-liter V-8 got a low-profile intake manifold (to clear the lower new hood), plus aluminum pistons and Ford's latest EEC-V electronic engine controller, all of which upped horsepower by 10 to 215. Torque improved to 285 pound-feet, the same output as the 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra.

Just measure the dizzy shaft length and quote it in your order.

Imagine how much better it will go when you get rid of the GMH parts.

i'll trawl through all these references and see what I find...........no sing of an 'F'
Merv, maybe one of the 'E's I've misread.

Cobber, as the dizzy that's in there is incorrect I'm hesitant to use this as a guide, however I guess if the spline on it knits in correctly maybe I can assume
that the length is OK.

The Holden dizzy wont "fit" into any of the ford splines, They have a totaly differnt drive set up. If your "holden" dizzy fits in your block and drives the oil pump it isnt a holden dizzy!!!! It may be a ford dizzy converted to run the holden pick up and electronic side of things

The intake manifold is not shaped as the '94 pic so that sorts out the dizzy type.

Merv, thanks for the fibreglass guys name, I'm heading up your way tomorrow to check out a few golf carts in Noosa so I'll drop in on them on the way. Also Warwick has my radiator and tailshaft ready plus a few other goodies so it's home after that to tinker a bit more.

Where did you guys get your bumpers from? Finishline's gear looks good but with Aus$ and freight it work out about the same price to buy locally.

Looking good Greg! The bumpers need to have a bolt spacing that suits the hole pattern in the Harrison frame. Check the distance between the two bolt holes and that will determine which bumpers you can handle. Front and rear are different as I recall. I needed to make a small adapter plate in the rear ones. I got mine via Warwick. They are very expensive now!
