Start up
Start up of the Ford 302 in Harrison #80 was achieved today. Afer 24 hrs spend tracking down a missing ground wire (with all kinds of electrical and intellectual self doubt) , suddenly there was that off beat throb of the motor (major thanks to Geof and Les). It idles well but no oil pressure gauge or water temp yet, but I need to correct a couple of connections to the harness there I suspect. Then to set the timing with the strobe light more precisely and re-fit the dash.
The immobilizer system also works and there may be a short test drive in the offing this weekend! Merv PS Forgot the video, but I can do it on the weekend, now that the script is writtten... |
Congratulations on your new baby. Now to get it out of the incubator. :)
|
Huge congrats Merv, well done. :D
|
As mentioned, not gonna believe it till you post the video. ;)
Whats the bet some-one will be in threat of being gassed in their garage during the next few days. :3DSMILE: |
Well done Merv, one of the big milestones achieved.
|
Congrats Merv! Gotta love those electrical gremlins. :)

Great news Merv. That's got to put a smile on your face :D
Cheers |
congratulations Merv, can only dream of your joy, I happen to be waiting for my ECU to come back from Melbourne for the second time, they keep programming it as an auto. Funny thing is they sold me all the gear in one hit, you would think they could figure out the programming:confused:
|
Big Congratulations :D

Merv
Well done. Quite straight forward in the end. Damn earths eh!! Look forward to the next instalment - tidy up and engineering I suppose. Then rego and away we go .... Video ... ? Cheers Geof |
guages
dunno if your engine is an old one, but if it has just been rebuilt and tight, water temp and oil pressure guages are critical to know whats going on, especially 302 windsors, they have 2 bores that run hotter than the rest because of water jacket design and they pick up in the bore if they get too hot. it happened to me, so dont run it for long untill the guages are hooked up. personally i would never start a new engine without them,no professional engine builder would either, anyway congratulations its always an exciting time to hear a fresh engine fire up for the first time. all the best with it, cheers and beers tomcat
|
Thanks Tomcat. The gauges were hooked up but there is a harness issue with them i suspect.
Merv |
Well DOne
Merv,
Great work tracking down the offending wire! Congratulations on the start. Can't wait to see the video regards Mick |
Thanks Mick. It now has a set of gauges that work too! Video this weekend hopefully!
Best, Merv |
Well it starts and it runs! All gauges functioning correctly and according to Hoyle! Amazingly smooth and gearbox very light on shifts. Quite quick too and the Gilmer sounds purposeful. No leaks so far...
Sharon looks great in it! Merv PS Video still coming Les when I can borrow one. |
Well done Merv!
Glad to hear that the gremlins have been vanquished. Cheers Geoff |
