I used 5/16" Bundy tube bought from my local Hydraulic hose supply at about $6 per meter.

To do a tidy job you will need a flaring tool for the bundy tube. Flaring the ends of the tube locks the tube into the wheel boxes rather than just relying on the clamping force to hold it in place. The flared end also makes a nice transition for the cable as it moves back and forth (No edges for it to catch against).

Keep any bends to a wide radius. With tight radius bends the motor will have trouble pushing the cable through. You can carefully bend the tube by hand without a bender but make sure you check it hasn't distorted the tube too much and the cable still runs freely through it.

All I have to do now is source a cam with the right degrees and a plug to wire up the motor.

No hot water for me. Not fitting a heater since I've had a big cup of HTFU. (Might look at electric seat heaters though). :p

Mike, whats the go with cable operated vs oldskool linkages? I'm wondering how they would work... :confused:

The Lucas cable system is very old school. It has some real advantages where space is limited. The cable is fairly rigid and has wire spiral running its entire length. This spiral connects to linkage attached to a pin on one side of a gear on the the wiper motor. As the wiper motor rotates it pushes the cable back and forth. Smaller gears on the backs of the wheel boxes the arms attach to engage the spiral on the cable as they run past. As the cable moves back and forth through the tube it turns the gears in the wheel boxes moving the wiper blade back and forth.

Disadvantages of the system would be the drag the cable has as it runs through the tube. It needs to be greased to keep it working it's best. There is also probably a bit more play in the system compared to direct links.

The advantage is you can snake the tube around obstacles under the dash where a linkage needs more clearance.

I've got to pull the whole system out this week as I continue with the body work. I'll take some pics of the components and how they fit together on the bench.

Hey Mike,

I've installed the Lucas system similar to yours, I thought rather than going back and forth it looked like to me that it used a worm screw concept and just turned the screw/shaft in different directions and the gearboxes took care of translating that in to back and forth movements.

Doesnt really matter, but I liked the idea as it means I didnt have to be too fussed about the screw shaft getting stuck.

P.S. I found a site which has the pin outs for the Lucas motor if anyone wants it.
