I think the price Spooky is quoting is off the web-site, its the stuff that was there last time I looked

As far as I can tell the point is about what you get for your $$ but just in case anyone is concerned about the legality of Georges cars

- as far as I know George is putting chevs in now (see pic below from shed run in Sep '08)
and I hear that the customer base would prefer that he weren't...

All this talk about hundreds of thousands of dollars by the time you complete your project is quite depressing.

I plan on either saving for a used cobra or building my own. After the initial 20k (ish) purchase of a kit where does the other 80 thousand come into play.

And just to play devils advocate, I'm a big fan of Ray's build:

He did it for what...13k?

Mate mate mate
these blokes are dinkum Aussies and they are talking aussie dollars. You can do a car way cheaper in the USA. Depends how skilled you are and what you want. The Aussies have lots of rules they need to meet. You could make a rat rod cobra in Texas for under 20K if you wanted.

Yep, if I was any where near the prices quoted on this page then there is no way I would be in one.

I imagine that you could sneak around the capital gains issue by keeping a log book of the hours spent on the build and then factor in an hourly labour rate of .............your choice !
I know that's what I'm going to do!
The Taxation Dept can carry on all they like but they can't tell YOU what your labour rate is worth.
That being said I certainly wouldn't go overboard on that issue. I don't think that Tax would except a labour rate of $300/hr if you have full time employment paying you only $35/hour, however, if for instance you had a set of under utilised skills AND you've changed the field of your endeavours and NO longer employ those skills.............well.
It's something to keep in mind, and I for one am going to take that tack
Rog246

I restored a 71 Mach 1 Mustang and wrote down all the hours spent on it over 9 years. Then I rang the trades and labour council and asked what the minimum wage rate was for a panel beater. I worked out my labour cost was $65,000.00 way back in 2000. Parts and paint cost $12,000.00 I didn't charge (my cousin) for the labour...that's my hobby.
