A Different Type of an Unmarked Vehicle

Driving down the Logan Motorway this afternoon I saw flashing lights of the type the police have on their vehicles and I though it looks like someone might be getting booked. As I went past it appeared the boys in blue were writing out what could have been an infringement notice. But the part that was different to normal was the vehicle that had the flashing lights was a plain white 2 tonne flat top truck towing a horse float.
You have to be careful these days.

Surely they could have out run a truck, especially with a horse float in tow!

Regards.

Would you try? Problem with number plates on cars, you can run, but can't hide.

Where the vehicles were parked it appears the driver might have exceded the 40 or 60kph road work speed zone.

You can't out run Motorola.

:D

spookypt 09-10-2009 04:54 PM

Was that you heading south over the gateway with "My Cobra" plates yesterday about 1.00pm???

BMK 09-10-2009 07:25 PM

The Mounted Branch in Victoria use a similiar tow vehicle.

More and more they are being used for general patrol duty. I have seen drivers intercepted in town by Policemen on horseback. We even have them on bicycles down in Geelong.

A little like the New York mounties Trularin..%/... it's not the Motorola that you need to out run it's the bullet at 750 feet per second..

The question I have is, how are police going to respond to a crime or emergency situation in a TRUCK? Heaven forbid that they should be distracted from the task of beefing up state coffers, but what's the official line on that one?

WKB your right, but sometimes your overcome with a little madness and you say "what the ****". When I was a kid I had a 78 Ford Escort 2.0L with a big turbo installed traveling on a long unlit open section of our freeway at 110km at about 2 in the morning. Traveling about 1/2km back was a car that slowed down when I did and sped up when I did. This continued for about a couple of kms and I remember thinking I should slow until the car caught up but I said to my friend next to me "what the ****". I went back into 3rd and took the rev's past 8000 and then into 4th. Halfway through 4th the car following me went passed me so fast he nearly had to hit the skids to slow down to my speed. 2 cops got out of their 351 interceptor and came rushing over asking what I had under the bonnet. I popped the lid and we all had a good chat about the setup under headlights and torchlights and I remember thinking Ive got out of this one when one of the cops said "sorry but we still have to book you". I got done for 180kms in a 110 zone. I had to attend court with my dad because I was 16 and had only held my license for 3 months. I was suspended from driving for 6 weeks but I cant remember how much the fine was for.
I know this must be a VERY tame story compared to some of you guys on the forum!

Regards.

Mando 09-13-2009 12:59 AM

Hi Steve, I really would like to have it started in the next 2 weeks providing I can get a wheel alignment and my loaner exhaust fitted.
I just read your message, let me know if you don't get it.

Regards.

Mando
Back in my more youthful days I was pulled over by the Victorian highway patrol out of sale (down Gippsland way). In those days they had 351 Candy Cars. Very visible and very fast. I was doing 120 in a 100 zone between Sale and Stratford (going to pick up a young lady for the first time in my suit & tie). Only had my license for 6 months (still on P plates). All in all I was buggered. Two days later I received a phone call from the highway patrol Sgt to report to the Police Station where upon I received a very heavy talking to and a good swift boot in the arse, with a warning to slow down (it worked-for a little while). I later found out that my father and the surf club Captain (also the local Mayor) had spoken to the highway patrol sgt about this matter.
Lucky break, anyway the police are using WRX Suburu's (unmarked) in north Queensland now and in particular between most small towns.

Seems they are getting a bit serious.

Mando 09-13-2009 05:09 AM

Hi Colin, I'm just glad my Dad didn't know any Cops!

Regards.

Towmaster 09-16-2009 08:22 AM

Well they must be getting something right... In 1971 over 1,000 people died on Victorian roads, Last year it was i think under 300.... And think of the population difference between 1971 and 2008......
Don't get me wrong, I've lost my license twice for speed related offences....
Just a thought....

Krait 09-16-2009 03:06 PM

I reckon seatbelts played a greater role in reducing the death toll than the speed camera. Add to that the vast improvement of passive and active safety systems in late model cars.

However, none of this stops the nut behind the wheel causing the accident to happen.

Cheers
