A Different Type of an Unmarked Vehicle
Driving down the Logan Motorway this afternoon I saw flashing lights of the type the police have on their vehicles and I though it looks like someone might be getting booked. As I went past it appeared the boys in blue were writing out what could have been an infringement notice. But the part that was different to normal was the vehicle that had the flashing lights was a plain white 2 tonne flat top truck towing a horse float.
You have to be careful these days. Warren |
Surely they could have out run a truck, especially with a horse float in tow!

Where the vehicles were parked it appears the driver might have exceded the 40 or 60kph road work speed zone. Warren |
You can't out run Motorola.
:D |
Was that you heading south over the gateway with "My Cobra" plates yesterday about 1.00pm???
|
The Mounted Branch in Victoria use a similiar tow vehicle.
More and more they are being used for general patrol duty. I have seen drivers intercepted in town by Policemen on horseback. We even have them on bicycles down in Geelong. A little like the New York mounties Trularin..%/... it's not the Motorola that you need to out run it's the bullet at 750 feet per second.. |
Add to the list:
Black Humma:eek:; Tradies white flat tray ute; Holden Omega Station Wagon (Silver); etc etc etc |

300c R8 Holden ute Honda Prelude |
They are using older Nissan Pulsars out this way
|
they are nothin but cheats!

Cobra Replica! Oh no Mr Hughes his since sold his! :-) But I beleive he'll be campaigning his new one on the track only! He he he
|
The question I have is, how are police going to respond to a crime or emergency situation in a TRUCK? Heaven forbid that they should be distracted from the task of beefing up state coffers, but what's the official line on that one?

When's the cobra slated to hit the street Mando? And did you see my message about next week? Cheers Steve |
Hi Steve, I really would like to have it started in the next 2 weeks providing I can get a wheel alignment and my loaner exhaust fitted.
I just read your message, let me know if you don't get it. Regards. |
Mando
Back in my more youthful days I was pulled over by the Victorian highway patrol out of sale (down Gippsland way). In those days they had 351 Candy Cars. Very visible and very fast. I was doing 120 in a 100 zone between Sale and Stratford (going to pick up a young lady for the first time in my suit & tie). Only had my license for 6 months (still on P plates). All in all I was buggered. Two days later I received a phone call from the highway patrol Sgt to report to the Police Station where upon I received a very heavy talking to and a good swift boot in the arse, with a warning to slow down (it worked-for a little while). I later found out that my father and the surf club Captain (also the local Mayor) had spoken to the highway patrol sgt about this matter. Lucky break, anyway the police are using WRX Suburu's (unmarked) in north Queensland now and in particular between most small towns. Seems they are getting a bit serious. Colin |
Hi Colin, I'm just glad my Dad didn't know any Cops!
Regards. |
Well they must be getting something right... In 1971 over 1,000 people died on Victorian roads, Last year it was i think under 300.... And think of the population difference between 1971 and 2008......
Don't get me wrong, I've lost my license twice for speed related offences.... Just a thought.... |
I reckon seatbelts played a greater role in reducing the death toll than the speed camera. Add to that the vast improvement of passive and active safety systems in late model cars.
However, none of this stops the nut behind the wheel causing the accident to happen. Cheers |
