Throttle Cable

What are the issues with the throttle cables on the B and B. I am deciding which way to go. I have seen Larry's mechanical setup, which looks pretty good, but I'm inclinded to go with a simple cable. Control Cables Inc. can make any length cable I want and has a fitting that is long enough to bolt through the firewall.

What would be the ideal length for the cable?
Does the cable rub on the steering shaft? Any other issues to consider?

Thanks.

Wayne

In my opinion, nothing looks better than a mechanical throttle linkage under the hood of a cobra.

Just my opinion.

Ya, I'm taking that into consideration. Not a done deal yet.

I like the fact that i have a cable....no mech. linkage to bind when I'm hard on the go pedal.

The cable is simple, reliable, responsive. But it looks like an after thought. I'm with Slim. I like complications such as the mechanical linkage. If I ever find the time, I'd like to switch.

I am finding two of the bearings Larry used in his set up Midwest Controls does not carry anymore. At least they don't come up on a part number search on their site.
What would be the perfect length if I go with a cable. Most come in foot increments but I can get them exact to the inch. Does the cable rub on the steering shaft?

Two bearings came from Igus http://www.igus.com
KARM-10
EFSM-10

Let me know if you can't find the parts, McMaster-Carr has these also.

Got it thanks.

I duplicated Larry's linkage design in my car and couldn't be happier. The pedal action and carb linkage couldn't respond any better... Kudos Larry!

After a long evaluation. Longer than I wanted. I decided to go with Larry's design with a minor modification. I'm going with 1/4" rods and chrome rod ends. I also added an extra layer of fiberglass where the bearings bolt through the firewall. It was very tempting to just go with the cable but Larry's design was just so logical.

I converted from a cable to mechanical and wouldn't go back. It is smoother and adjustable and looks rite! Some pics in my gallery.
Cheers Greg

Mechanical Linkage

OK, I went with mechanical linkage based on Larry's design.

I cut off the end of the pedal rod and welding on a bracket I made to accept another rod end. I went with 1/4" ends and 1/4" stainless rod to the carb. I lucked out and stopped by metals supermarket and they had some the 1/4" X 5 ft. stainless rod in their remnant area for 3.00. I used the two bolt igus bearing EFOI-06 and put it on the inside of the foot box. I also added a rod collar on the inside so the rod can't slide. I still have to make a return spring bracket. Thanks again Larry.
