Trunk Prop Rod from Finish Line

I just purchased a prop rod from Finish Line and I would like to know the best way to hook it up. I will be using it to hold up my trunk. It is the Safety catch entension type not just a length of rod.

Has anyone installed one before. I would like to learn from past experience before I start drilling holes. Any pictures?
