Default Steering Shafts

How tightly did the upper steering shaft fit into the extension rod? Mine is fairly tight, and requires some effort to insert and remove. Also, is everyone's steering mounts canted away from the driver? Just want to make sure. When I try to mount the column, the rear two holes (the non elongated ones) do not want to line straight up. Any cool tips for getting this whole thing in alignment?

I remember my streering column didn't line up perfectly. Just used some long bolts and got them through the mounting hole. Tightened them up with a little misalignment and haven't touched it since. My steering shaft was extremely tight. Put mine in too far the first time and had a hard time pulling it back out. Jim

Was the knuckle on the U-Joint tight for you guys? Mine rubs a little on each turn. It appears to be making room for itself, but I am wondering if this should be the case. Any thoughts?

Mine clears the frame but the rag joint is shot. The angle at the end of the steering shaft going to the rack is too much. My steering is also at an angle like yours and is very tight. I am looing into putting in a short IDIDIT column.

Glad some of you guys got on the subject of steering shafts etc. My angle (like yours) is too radical for a smooth turning motion. From day one when turning my wheels I have felt like my u-joint was in a bind. I too may be going to another steering option. I am looking at one through Speedway that I like. Just don't know if I will be opening up a can of worms.

Right now my steering column barely clears my heads on my 428 and even though I can feel some drag it works just fine. Sure wish there was a way to get more turning radius.

Question Steering ends?

This steering is driving me crazy. I though I would try to replace the short shaft that connects the steering column end to the rack since the rag joint was shot anyway. I ordered all new parts from Borgeson. Does anyone know what the column came out of. The end of mine is not a '94 up mustang end or a double D or least it does not fit the Borgeson parts. How about the rack - I know that mine is 9/16 - 26 spline but it sure is a loose fit with the Borgeson parts. I guess it is time for a custom column. This is the last thing on my list before I can test drive and my patience is gone.....

The steering column and rack should be from a 74-78 mustang II. Manual and power racks use different rag joints. Jim
