Switch use
Yea another thread. Everyone seems to have at least three toggle switches on the dash. The only one that I really need is one for the wipers. What is everyone using the toggle switches for and where is everyone getting the heater controls from?

I have one connected for the brights (I need to replace it because it is an ON-OFF-ON switch from B&B, and should really be a ON-ON, the lights go off breifly when switching to brights), and the other I used as a fan override. For the wipers, I purchased a harness from Quality Roadsters that let me use the provided switch and get park functionality.

i just bought a headlight high/low floor switch , high/low wiper with park,headlight /parking two position switch,universal ignition,from speedway for under 75 bucks. I figured that i would only need two other switches (windshiel squirter and fan override) .Oh ,the vintage air heater came with two rotary switches(fan speed and heater / defroster)

I used three switches. The first is an ON-ON for high and low beams. I have a regular headlight switch on the left side of the steering column. The second is a spare for later. Right now I use it to turn the fan on if I want it to run and the fan temp switch is not closed. I may use it for something else later if I need it. And, the third is for the wiper. It is a ON-OFF-ON switch. I did not worry about a “park” position capable switch for the wipers. Who uses them anyway?

Rob, I'm thinking that you live on this site! Always quick with a good answer! I put a foot switch for my dimmer and so all I really NEED is the wiper switch. Seems a waste to put two "just in case" switches, but it looks strange without them. I have been working on heater controls for which are being a pain to find decent looking controls! I bought a heater from Summit and it is working out great but the switch is lame!

the vintage air switches look lame also, so when you find some good ones be sure to post it!

I used them for the headlights, wipers, and neutral stafety switch. Car will not start without the third switch turned on.

Headlight switch
I'm thinking about using toggle switches with the illuminated LED tip. I'm having a hard time locating an ON-ON switch with the LED to use for my high/low beams. I'm going to use the standard "pull-type" headlight switch to the left of the steering column along with the toggle. Does anyone know if you can wire an ON-OFF toggle so that your low beams are on when the toggle is off and the high beams are on when the toggle is on? Thanks...

Not sure why you want to use both a pull switch and a toggle for your lights. A pull switch (for lights) will operate both hi/low (and interior if needed). A single pole double throw (center off) will also switch your power source from one leg to the other. The challenge that I've had using toggles are finding ones that have a shaft thick enough to go though my dash and still have ample threads left to secure.

I wired my car primarily for track use and authenticity was not a concern. First, I purchased on/off toggle switches with built in circuit breakers. If a circuit pops, the toggle drops and can be reset by cycling the switch. Each switch is sized (amps) for the circuit it controls: Ignition, fuel pump, Accusump, fan and lights. The ignition and fuel pump switches have guarded covers so they can be quickly turned off by slapping the red covers down. The light switch turns on the instrument lights, front parking lights, tail lights and dim head lights. A push button switch on the steering wheel controls a relay that powers the bright headlights whenever the ignition circuit is on. That allows me to flash the bright headlights whether or not the light circuit is on.

I have three switches as well. Left to right:
Dimmer Switch (on on) Fan Switch 2 speed Electric Fuel Pump (w/ aircraft safety cover) Wiper knob is located to the left of my steering wheel However, I am probably going to replace my padded dash with an aluminium one and have it powder coated black. Then I intend to re-configure all my gauges to a more accurate and user friendly arrangement. Clois |
You can use a relay to accomplish what you want. Switch would control relay and relay SPDT would route power to desired bulb. (high or low)
