Updates for project #29

Hey guys, here are some of the more recent shots, hoping to pick up the car from the steel fabricator this afternoon, and get over to the body guy for all his grinding and filling work.

Looking Good

Looking good my Brother...I was down at the shop last week :D. Will be going by tomorrow to show my son who is coming in from Cali. ...Hope to meet some of the locals as I wait for my car....stay safe....Bill

Richard,
The car is looking good! Really nice cage.

Bailey 06-10-2011 04:27 AM

Thanks Steve, she's turning out well and I am happy with the progress. Still a long way to go though. We need to do a test fit of the motor and headers, then strip her back down, and get the frame powdercoated, then start the build.
She's going to be a little different, race prepped, opening doors, but fully street legal :D

Rwillia4 06-14-2011 06:16 PM

Looks awesome.

Where did you add gussets to strengthen the original frame?

Rwillia4 06-14-2011 06:20 PM

Looks awesome.

Where did you add gussets to the original frame to strengthen things? Or did you rely on the cage to tighten things up?

Bailey 07-12-2011 02:52 PM

Here are few from this morning. Alum fab work is complete, tabs in front of the radiator are for a Mocal oil cooler.

Richard!
I only visit here occasionally and when I popped in right now there's your update at the top of the page! Cosmic intervention I guess. Been meaning to drop you a line to see how it was going; now I know! Saw Reg & Frank in Ohio last month and they told me that you had just got it back from the fab guy. Good stuff going on there buddy---big changes from when I visited in April. I'll keep my eyes open for the next progress report ;)

Cheers,
Jeff

That's funny. Timing is everything. Progress has been steady and thorough, trying to get her off to the powdercoater soon. Leaving for Az on Thursday morning, and we'll be gone for a few weeks. I'll give you a ring in the next few days.
Cheers,
Richard

The second gen TD cars have multiple frame mods to accomodate the additional loads applied on a race track. The company that fabbed the cage has done several Grand Am cars, and utilized many of those design features in the cage structure and interior design.

Love seeing another Lemans style top on a fauxbra. Does BDR make that one for these TD cars? Seeing that the top includes the A-posts, I'm assuming the front screen is Lexan? Love seeing the fab process and it really looks purpose-built.

What is your target weight and drive train specs?

Looking forward to future updates!!

- Allen.

Hey Allen, sorry for the slow reply, just got back from a 6500 mi road trip, been on the road for the last three weeks.
The top is a BDR supplied top, also available for their street cars, and the front screen is Lexan.
Target weight is 2500lbs, or so, she may come in a little pudgier. My current car is 2380, without driver, fueled up.
Hopefully the powdercoater will be done with the frame this week, and we can begin the assembly process. Drive train is the one I am currently using, what started out as a 408, now a 427 dry sump Windsor, mated to a G-Force T-56.

Bailey 08-15-2011 10:16 AM

Bill, sent yo a PM.
Got the chassis back from the powder coater on Saturday, a productive weekend was had. She's now a roller with the exception of the steering rack, which should be in as soon as my honey do chores are wrapped up.

That's a pretty good looking donor car in the garage ;)

Jeff

Bailey 08-15-2011 05:01 PM

I was hoping to surprise you with a phone call from Indiana, with a dinner invitation, but we never made it north of I70.
That donor has treated me really well.

JKleiner 08-16-2011 04:01 AM

Would have been a pleasant surprise! Next time...:)

Some updated pictures from this afternoon. She's sitting on her own wheels for the first time. Steering is in. Front brake lines are in for the fourth and final time. Footboxes are complete. Dry sump lines are in for a dry fit. Keg is mounted, getting ready to drop the motor in for a test fit this weekend.

Looks like a fun project. Looking forward to seeing the finished car.
