Double clutching
One of my friends that had had Cobras in the past says I should be double
clutching my new t5 equipped car. While I have had many manual driven
sports cars in the past,this has never been my practice. Just looking for
some opinions out there. Thanks.

I'm no expert on this question, but it seems to me you'll know what to do by experience. If it shifts well without double clutching, don't do it.

A modern synchro transmission doesn't have to be double clutched. That said, I do it for a downshift along with some heal and toeing on the brake and throttle on the track (and on the street out of habit). It doesn't hurt anything but it's really not necessary.

I grew up driving trucks and tractors, non-synchro'd cars ....and a transaxle Alfa. I still double de-clutch changing down a gear. It sure won't hurt anything doing that, but you should be able to sense if you think a gearbox would benefit from it. Can you feel the gears engaging? If you can, there's probably some benefit in longevity in double de-clutching.

Sounds like your friend was shifting a log wagon. If the tranny and clutch assy is correct you should be able to shift with double clutching.

When I de-clutch to down shift, I goose the throttle a bit to bring the revs up to match the new gear before re-engaging the clutch...heel and toe to do it if braking. It's satisfying to get it right, as it feels smooth and sounds great...but the coordination needed for true double clutching has always eluded me. :-(
