Default New Battery recommendation

Well my original 2005 - 23k mile battery finally gave out, not bad.
I have BDR 259 build and the battery is center mounted and I have a mild 351W. I searched the posts on the site but it was not clear to me what battery to get. I will probably just go to my local Kragen/O’Reilly store.
Any recommendations on what to get?

Thanks

John

My Optima red top is still going strong on my Backdraft #89 (2004 build)... but I throw the battery cutoff when it's parked in the garage, and I keep a battery tender on it.

I got an optima redtop and installed a new optima battery tray from this place:

34R Rigid Clamp Tray 34R-XXCS

Looks really nice and holds the battery in great.

You don't need and super duper amp expensive battery...in general these cars require very little battery. No accessories... just an MSD, fuel pump and lights (maybe). Your engine is broken in, you live in a warm climate and if you run pump gas you have relatively low compression. The battery should have some CCA numbers on it...use that as a guide. A 36 month, 24 group size battery should be fine and last several years again for you.

My car requires a Type 47, and Optima doesn't make a Red Top in that size. I first went to Sears, but they wouldn't honor their own online price of $135 and wanted to charge me $190. So I went to Interstate and got one there. Don't get me started on how far Sears has fallen, between their brain-dead customer service and poor quality Chinese Craftsman tools. I tend to stay away from Kragan or Autozone anything. I also purchased a CTEK battery charger, which gets great reviews.

Costco. I bought one. It's great, a lot of cranking power and a great warranty and it fits.

Walmart Everstart. My size battery 26R lists at $75. Consumer Reports rates Everstart batteries at the top of MOST sizes, but cautions that battery performance varies according to size. Keep in mind that a battery has no effect on engine performance as long as it is able to start it.

Same thing here except I bought the next level up Maxxx Start, $10 more but it has a 3 year replacement warranty as long as you save the receipt. (I taped it to the side of the battery) No problems and I've had it 2 years.

My BDR #889 takes a 26R mounted in the left side of the trunk. I got one earlier this year at Sears for somewhere around $75. It was part of a series called Sure Start of something similar. Not sure of the difference between the center and side mount batteries though.

Sams club etc.
The strongest one.
Stay away from the colored top ones.. (ask me why...; experience)
I have another car with over 900hp and it starts the car just fine. Every time.

I have a guy that works professionally doing only car electronics and dreads it every time he sees a car with the fancy batteries.

Thank you all for the great info. I will go out and get a new battery ASAP so I can get back on the road.

Thanks

John

I've had the same Walmart Everstart Maxx battery in my car for probably 7 or 8 years.

I have a battery kill switch which is always in the OFF position when the car isn't running.

I keep a Battery Tender attached most times when the car is not being driven.

The longevity of my battery is probably a combination of everything I noted.
