How was the install on this ? Did you do it yourself ?

tortuga 11-17-2015 09:22 PM

Yep 20 minutes tops

remove 4 screws on the boot ring, slip boot off old shifter, remove two 1/2" bolts from the shifter, swap shifters reverse the order...Time including cleaning, getting out and putting away two tools.

Tortuga where did you pick up that SS knob?

jimbo01 11-18-2015 07:35 AM

I installed a Jordan shifter in my car. I really like it. The Jordan shifter is round and will not mess up the boot in time. Thought about the Hurst shifter but found out the large rectangle shaft will in time damage the boot. Not positive but I think I got the black shifter knob from Summitt Racing. The 1/2" threads are the most common.

According to the Steeda web site their shifter is for the T5 not the TKO 600. Not sure what tranny you have in the car. The Hurst and Jordan shifters are for the TKO tranny.

I have the Hurst short stick from VMS in mine.

It really should be called a short stick as the shifter itself does not get changed out.

I like the positioning better however, I would like a shorter throw on the shifter mechanism itself.

Mine is on mounted a t56 magnum trans which shifts like **** anyways. Notchy as all hell, nothing like my other cars with the old standard borg warner t56....that trans was butter smooth.

Overall I like the shifter (short stick), but make sure to use locktite on the threads or you will be pulling it all apart again to tighten up those half-inch bolts a month later. You will more than likely tear your shifter boot as well. Mine is definitely stretched to the limit around the rectangle shaft. End of next year I will probably have to replace it.

Great info thank you. Blue locktite I am assuming?

Short Shifter

I love the position of mine. Very comfortable. Had it powdercoated black and married it with a beautiful shifter with red matching paint. Meshed with a TKO 600

We are working with a company on shifter boots. The tearing occurs with all shifter handle types... So common problem that needs a solution.

Hey MJC when did you get the XS?

Jay let us know when the new boots are ready.

I put a PRO 50 shifter on my Tremec 500 and its a nice unit. Couldn't miss 3rd if I tried. Very easy to install and I used my existing old school "hypodermic" knob and lever. Of course the reverse lock out hypo tangs are non-functional, but I like the looks. I'm pretty sure, that with a Tremec, internal mods are required to get rid of the notchiness.

BADSN8K...No need to get them coated anymore. VMS sells these already coated in matte black finish if desired. :)

Jay I didnt get an XS motor. Ironically the trans part number I have is the mag trans with the .62 6th gear paired with the 5.0L. Motor is coming out to build up this winter.

I have had shifting issues since i bought the car. One of the posts from a customer on your testbed thread may have brought up a symptom dealing with flex on the brackets for the hydraulics...and the shaft used to tune the engagement.

I'm probably gonna call you regarding it to see if we can come to an agreement on what parts you can sell me to fix it. Lol.

-Mike
