Yep.....I got the rear end back together. Grey 65 was correct when he said "looks like the 6 bolts holding the half spacer back out." Kinda makes you wonder if these were torqued to begin with. The half shaft apparently hit the wing part of the Diff cover and broke it. I bought a new Diff cover and bolts, and gear oil and re-assembled. The car runs great now, except now I noticed transmission fluid leaking around the rear seal of the transmission. I'm not sure if the previous problem caused this............. Dang!!!!
How hard is this seal to change out ? Anyboby got suggestions?

Vance

Easy to fix. Pull the driveshaft and yank the trans end seal out. Install new seal, reinstall driveshaft and go to it.

Thank you........I'm gonna replace the seal this weekend. How do I check the trans fluid level and how many qts does the Tremec 600 hold?

Axel let me know how easy it was to replace the seal and if you come across any challenges.

About 2.5 but you want to fill to about 1/4" BELOW the side fill port. TKOs shift better at higher RPMs with a little less fluid. Tremec has even admitted this with a service bulletin.

Make up a 90 degree rod (coathanger, etc.) and wrap masking tape on the downward leg with a mark about 1/4"-3/8" and fill until the fluid shows at that mark checking as you fill.

assuming you have a tremec (TKO ) it is a snap, should be a cake walk after the diff practice,

And the filler plug is on the passenger side (American cars, not British). You will find the easiest way to fill it up properly is to put it up in the air, with each wheel level, then fill it up until it dribbles out the hole. Then use a small plastic tube to syphon just a bit off the top. Then you can double check it with your little finger. That really is the easiest way. And ignore what anyone tells you if they suggest using anything but GM Synchomesh #12345349. You need about 5.3 pints for a full change out. I use a 9/16" Pipe Plug Socket, but a wrench will do. Use an anaerobic sealant on the plug threads, torque it to 20 ft/lbs, and then mark it with a little Torque Seal just to be thorough. It actually is one of the more easy tasks on these cars.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. It never fails when I plan to do anything on the weekend, something else comes up and has to be done. I'm gonna try to change the seal out one day after work.
