Anybody know the fuel tank depth...
...at the sending unit for the metal tank in early BDR's? I'm looking to install a capacitance fuel sender, which needs to be a specific length above the bottom of the tank, and would like to avoid having the car out of service while I drop the tank, measure it, order the part, wait for the part, etc.

I purchased one from Wema USA in Ft Lauderdale. I remove the tank and measured from opening to the bottom of the tank. You need to know the ohms values for the gauge your using in order to order one. They make a 2 wire sender which is one of the best I have found. Do not purchase the 3 wire sender as they are junk. You can also measure the sender you have in the tank. Simple to remove the tank. Be careful with the bolts attaching the sender as they are easy to strip out. If needed you can purchase a stainless split ring to go under the tank opening to screw the sender to.

I need to change mine as well (never goes past 3/4). I'm still considering just installing a signal compensator. Took a look at WEMA site. You would need to contact them and give them the ohms range for your gauge and the length you need. If you don't know the ohms you can contact the gauge mfg and they will be happy to let you know this info. The model # is SSS/SSL.

Excellent info. Looking at the site the SSS/SSL are Reed switch operation and not capacitance. Not a big deal but are more along the lines of click I'm @ 3/4, click I'm @ 1/2, etc...

The sender I purchased reads from empty to full correctly. No mater how much fuel I have in the tank it reads correctly on the gage. I purchased a 3 wire sender from a comany in Tampa and it did not work at all. Finally through it away.

Thanks Jimbo, you're correct on the Reed switch operation not being clickey in operation. Sorry if I came off as a jerk in my response. I hate typing / texting, hard to emote.
