Default Turnsignal gaskets or not

Why do some cars have this large black gasket between turnsignal/brake light and body and others of similar age don’t? Is it just some people remove the gaskets for a cleaner look?

I purchased my BDR (#1360) and the car was delivered without any black gaskets between the turn signal/brake light or any other turn signal in the front of the car. I do not understand why Backdraft would insert such a gasket unless they anticipated a heavy wet environment. I live in sunny Arizona. I would never need such gaskets as I never drive in wet weather which is rare out here. Phil

May be to protect the paint.

Turn signal light rubbing against the paint as you drive.

There should be a gasket on the front and rear signal lights to seal out dust/moisture and reduce vibration against the body.

I have sold several gaskets sets for the Backdraft cars. They fill in the gap and seal out moisture and rubbing to the paint.

I have the gap on my ERA front running lights/turn signals. I just use big "O"
rings and they are perfect...and cheap! No more gap.

Some of us inverted the gaskets around the headlight bezels to seal inside the body without being seen
