New Project - Pusher Fans

It's been some winter for projects and upgrades. Carbon fiber dash and new gauges along with LED warning lights and switches. Upgraded headlights. Aluminum gas tank. Rear shocks. Front steering upgrade. Front shocks and springs upgrade. New Carb. Now...pusher fans. Do I need them? Nope my 427R does just fine with the puller even on the hottest days. Do they look sharp? Definitely. Will be functional? Of course. I just need to decide how I want them to work. They will be independent of the puller.

Did you fabricate the mounting bar? I have a pair of fans myself, and haven't installed them yet.

I will post updates and info as I get into it. Mounting bar came with it. Probably going to do a separate switch with a circuit breaker and relay. I want to test them with my DC power supply. Here is where I got them from.

That's funny. I have seen those. The fans have some weight to them so they will have to be securely mounted.

I take it you are referring to those little plates that were taped on to one end. I pretty much discounted them. I will figure out something for the brackets. I am pretty pleased with the quality of the set up. I will run a 12v lead with a reset breaker off the backside off the battery cut off to a relay that will be activated by the ignition switch. From there through a toggle with a blue LED indicator to the fans. I don't want them running unless I switch them on.

Fred, I added two buss bars (1 + and 1 -) in the trunk near my battery cut off. Ran a 40 amp C/B to the positive one.
Mainly so it would be easy to add-remove items to the car. I never even considered a phone charger. Hi tech. Here is a picture of the unit with a ruler. It's about 1 inch too long to fit so I trimmed a half off each side. Mounting will require a little creative engineering as all of the structure around the radiator is fiberglass. You need about 2 inches of clearance from the support to the radiator for fan clearance. The motors are heavy and not balanced on the support so the want to roll. That issue is solved with 2 supports. I will figure it out.

I came upon these while searching around. Stainless steel. They extend out 3 1/2 inches. I ordered a pair to test them out. Anyone recognize them?

I have the factory E36 radiator now. Works fine just really old and I'm not fond of plastic end caps. I read your old thread a few times a while ago and being a retired advanced electronics teacher I might be one of the few who understands it. You did a good job with the circuitry and finding the appropriate parts. In my case, the pushers will be more cosmetic because I don't need them for cooling. They will work but independent of the puller and only when I turn them on. Thanks for the suggestion though. On a lighter note, I am expecting good things to come from the bathroom stall brackets. Update and components.

I will be wrapping this up by the weekend as the mounting brackets arrive tomorrow and I am sure they will require a little tweeking. The fans are mostly cosmetic because my Roush 427r never runs hot and the puller effectively keeps it cool. The fans will work separate from the puller and be controlled with a toggle. I took the 12v power source directly from the back of power shut off ran it through a 30 amp Auto reset breaker. From there it goes to a normally off relay that will be turned on when the key is on. Power from the relay goes to the SPST toggle that has a mini LED connected in parallel to act as an on indicator. In other words. Start the car. Throw the toggle. the fans and light come on. Simple as that. Here are pictures of the parts. Every connection is either soldered or crimped and sealed with shrink wrap. Here are the pics of the parts. If anyone needs links, I will provide them to you.

It appears the the bathroom partition brackets are going to work out quite nicely for mounting the fans.

Pusher fan project is completed and works great. Fans are more powerful than expected and work independently from puller with a dash mounted toggle. Parts used in project are listed in above posts.

Great job Fred! Do you have the PN of the bathroom partition bracket? I know it most likely a standard spec but just to make sure I don't order a one-off.

The fan support is 3/4 x 3/4. I ordered two different size brackets from two different companies. One is 3/4 wide and the other is 1 inch wide. I went with the bigger one and used some stainless steel washers to take up the space. I found this easier because it's difficult to get the brackets perfectly parallel. Also, the 1 inch bracket is longer and beefier. The bottom one is one I went with.
