Default Turn signal arm set screw

Turn signal arm issue. Today noticed turn signal arm was loose and flopped around some. Everything works fine just the arm is very loose. I tightened the set screw a little and the arm would then not move at all? Backed the screw in and out and the arm is either too loose or too tight and won't move. Is there a sweet spot the lever needs to be in when tightening the set screw? I tried various arm positions but no difference.
What is the solution here?

I just replaced the turn signal assembly last week on my BDR. In fact, I took advantage of that by rotating 180deg so it was in the left of the steering column.

The column and arm assembly are keyed. The set screw is not to prevent rotation but rather removal of the assembly off the column. The column has at 1 o'clock a welded key. The assembly/arm slide onto that key to prevent rotation. The set screw tighetns the assembly onto that key. At least this is how it is in my BDR and the new arm assembly I bought of Backdraft's parts website. If your arm is rotating I would wonder if the arm assembly has moved up the column (I.e. towards your chest) where it is no longer "keyed" to the column. Hard for me to believe that though. Is the assembly seated as close to the dash as possible? Has the column possibly slipped down? Check the latter by looking in the engine bay and ensuring the chrome column has not slid down since its held in place by a bracket by the brake reservoir and by a collar on the steering shaft (which is inside the chrome column).

Thanks for the reply. I have attached a couple photos that shows the shaft key sticking out below the turn signal plastic hub about 1/4 inch. Does it look right?? The set screw has the allen wrench sticking out of it to show where it is at. The steering shaft is tight and does not appear to have moved.
Tightening the allen screw makes it super hard to rotate the turn signal arm.
Both collars seem to be locked together. When I loosen the allen screw the turn signal then rotates freely and works but it is loose. Not sure but don't think anything is broken, just perhaps not aligned correctly.
What did you use to pull your steering wheel off the center shaft?

I took another look at mine (recall however, mine is to the left since I rotated the steering column 180deg to get the arm to be on the left) and I don't see any of the key or shaft. In fact, a bit of the assembly goes almost into the dash. Compared to your photos of your assembly, it appears yours is not "slid" in all the way...

My 2 cents on 1 of 2 options for you:
a) Slide the assembly further down the column or
b) Slide the column up closeer to your chest. This is done by first loosening the u-bolt clamp behind the dash above your knees + the bracket in the engine bay that has 2 allen set screws + the column at the end of the column that also has 2 allen set screws. Remember this is the column or sleeve around the main steering shaft.

Your steering wheel is bolted to the shaft (which rotates with the wheel) and not the column which is stationary/static and does not rotate).

I had no problem taking the steering wheel off the steering shaft. However, I have read that others have to use a pulley remover. Do yourself a favor however and take a marker and mark alignment. that way you can get your steering wheel on straight/aligned should the steering column rotate while your playing around. As long as do not remove the 2 bolts which hold the steering shaft to the knuckle shaft at the first knuckle, your steering shaft should not be misaligned.

I have an early build #69 and I didn't see any key to lock into on mine. Screw had striped and I drilled it to next size and re taped gave the screw a point and drilled a very small divit in the right place on the coulmn.
