Default Differential support bracket

Will the differential bracket work on all Backdrafts?

I've heard that the bolt that comes with the bracket is 12mm whereas the carrier bolt on BDRs is 14mm

Yes...assuming your car uses the standard bmw e36 rear end. The only thing you need to do is use your old bolt. The new one is to small. You will also need to enlarge the support hole for the bolt and new support.

Success! So I made a copper sleave to protect the threads (weld wont stick to copper) and had my friend weld center to the broken bolt. This worked great...he was able to unscrew the bolt in about a minute. Anyone who has this issue in the future....I strongly recommend this process as an easy alternative to repair.

Ensure to cut a slot in the new bolt end. So if /when it snaps you can walk it out with a flat tip screwdriver.

I have an Active Autoworks diff support bracket that I used for a year or so if someone wanted it. Looks like quite a few people here were interested. Say $100 plus shipping. Ill post a picture of it later. I will also detail the rear end upgrade I have done to eliminate this problem but it is very extensive using a different BMW diff and the rallyroad bulletproof diff upgrade kit.

Here is what happened inside my diff after reinforcing the front mounting bolt. Shows the sheered teeth. Video has several suspension upgrades but at the end of the video you can see the e32 diff with rallyroad brackets in place (front welded and rear bolted on.

I looks like a great setup and I'm sure Jay's shop did a great job. Can you share the cost for the mod and IF it is a one-off customer mod or can it done in a home garage a-la quasi kit form? Thanks.

Vintage has done this upgrade on two cars I am aware of. Mine was the first and then they did it on BDR #1802 that just sold at Barratt Jackson recently. You could do it in your garage if you are handy with a welder as the front bracket needs to be welded to the subframe and then the rear hub spacers would need to be milled to work. I don't recall overall cost but was likely around 5k. Would need to buy an e32 diff., mine came from diffs online. I went with a Quafe LSD with 3.64 gears. This is a kit marketed to the 3 series BMW crowd.

Yes, very nice setup but out of my price range for sure. The Diff you mentioned is $4599 w/out shipping and the kit cost on top of that.
But then again I haven't broken anything in 7 years, ahhh just jinxed it...lol
