Cobra Make, Engine: Backdraft #91 with 345 HP 302

Default So, what started you on the path to a Backdraft?

For me, it was my first convertible at age 17. (first car was a 1966 Mustang, fun but very different driving experience) A 1971 MG Midget...wish quick steering, light weight, precise shifting and exacting brakes. Great teaching tool for a young driver as the 1275 cc engine, despite dual carbs, would not make enough horsepower to cover sloppy driving. If you didn't carry speed thru the corners and have the right gear for the exit you didn't have enough motor to make up the speed. Big fun and a great basis to move up to faster cars. So after 33 years of muscle cars, English Sport Cars and motorcycles I finally got a Cobra replica at age 50. Sports car handling and American V-8 power...it was the right answer in 1962 and it still the right answer for me.

Very nice, however I saw a 302 v8. Is this part of your progression to the 427 BB or stroker or, are you still that guy in the midget. Just curious not trying to offend. One more thing I have to say you choose the right color.

That was me a LONG time ago...Midget is long gone I am afraid, a victim of the British Progression I did. MG, Triumph, Austin Healey, Jaguar and finally Lotus before going to convertible American Muscle Cars. But the current toy car is a Backdraft Cobra with a 345 Horse 302 and a Tremec 5 speed.

And the engine. Nothing overboard, just a reliable motor for a guy whose street racing days are behind him.
