302 BDR quarter mile times?
Hey guys,
what kind of time in the quarter or the eighth mile time are you guys running? what type of gear? Its cold here and are track does not open until late march. Just wondering what I can shot for? thanks Dennis |
hi dennis
Soon as i get the engine broke in I'll let you know. i live in melbourne florida so it want be to long . #84 ming blue 302 sportsman block around 375 hp 2 weeks new and loveing it |
quarter times....
dennis,
It will take a lot more to get the 302 out of the 13's in the BDR. It's a matter of weight, gearing, and tires, since the 302 will not have the torque to get you in good 60' times, and will not pull on the end as result of your HP/weight. Like any racing venue, it's tough to drive a REAL RACE CAR on the street! grumpy |
Thanks for the reply guys. Not many 302 guys out there racing there cars by the low response to this thread. I'm hoping for mid 12's if not I'll get the nos or a supercharger. Traction the key to a mustang but I've never ran the BDR yet, but 13's is slow.
Thanks again |
Dennis: We're gonna punch my demo through the 1/4 at No Problem Raceway in Louisiana in a few weeks. (Mid March, check the All Race Talk Forum) Anyways, it's got a 347 w/337 HP to the rear wheels and a nice wide, flat torque curve. I've changed the gears to 3.91 but that's it. The rest is showroom. I'll post em'.

Hey Boudy ....... we better get a camera in it then. :)
You'll be running it on the Wed. night ? |
This may not directly answer your questions but give you some perespective. We (Atlanta Cobra Club) had an event in November in Commerce - the big drag track in the Atlanta area and all came away scratching our heads. Actually, our times were scewed based primarily on a verrrrry slippery non-treated track. Times ranged from 10.8 for purpose built slick tired Cobra to 15's. All 351W variants with the exception of a Winston Cup Car motor (673 hp) were in the 13's as were a couple of BB cars! With that said, highly modified Z06's were running mid 12's because we all had the same problems - traction in a big way. Sooooo if you want mid 12's (BTW I ran 12.5 @118 mph and yes I was dissapointed:CRY: ) you better get have power & traction. Then again one other thing was definetly holding ME back - experience, practice, experience, practice! Have fun!

Traction is not a problem at NPR - even your shoes stick to the surface.

I'm jealous!!!

of this ? :)

Hey Doug, how about sending me some of those cool pics of my car?

NPR is a NHRA sanctioned track so all cars have to meet the requirements on every run. It wasn't allowed to run. :(
Keith Williams car did run as it has a NHRA cage. A glitch with the line lock meant it wasn't getting anywhere near a good start but it still did a pretty good run. |
I don't race my car, but there was a BDR Backdraft at our local track last night. The car was powered by a 351, hyd roller lifter, mid range cam, roller rockers, AFR heads, 750 Edelbrock carb, with 3:10 rear with 315 Nitto drag radials.
Track rules state that open cars running under 14 seconds need roll cages. The car was allowed to run if it stayed under that speed. It was dark so the actural finish line was hard to judge. The plan (I was told) was to run hard in first and second gear then back off before the traps. So the first few runs started great but produced times between 14 and 17 seconds speeds from 45 to 85 mph. The last run of the night was an all out effort. Ran 12.33 at 111, then pulled into the parking lot. Maybe with a Carb change and some more expirence for the driver the car will break 12 seconds |
While not a BDR My FFR with slightly warmed over 302 approx 300HP. Best time to date is 13.4 60' 2.01sec. Would be faster but the driver is a big fellow.
3:27 gears with rock hard BFG Radial T/A's. Tranny is a HD t5-Z. The best time I have seen with a stock 302 in an FFR with 3.55 Gears has been 13.1. Mike |
