Shop around on those seat heaters. I have seen them for about 1/2 that price.

I used a Mojave heater unit from Summit.

Works great and it was easy to plum to the defroster vents. It has adjustable fan control and it doesn't take up to much room under the dash. I think I paid about $150.00 for it. It was a very easy install.

Living in Columbus myself........ A heater and a top greatly extend the season. As noted, without the top the heater is little more then the occasional hand warmer though. Vintage Air makes a good heat defrost unit that can be had very reasonably. Mine is mounted on top of the passenger side footbox.

I've got the ERA stock heater and the Cobraheat seat heaters and with the top and side curtains can drive year round in Oregon.
Our temperatures are a little more mild than Ohio but I've been out in near freezing temps and been very comfortable. I do remove the wind wings with the side curtains on to keep the drafts in the cockpit down.
Don't usually go out in the rain only because it takes so much work to wipe down the underside. Have driven in the rain and while it leaks a bit (it has to by law) it's very doable.
