Not real sure Ford Racing has a warranty on parts sold from the Racing catalog. Let me dig up my book and see what it says.
|
Bad news from the catalog. Big bold letters spell out "Sold as is with NO warranty. The buyer and not the manufacture, distributor, or retailer, shall assume the entire cost of all necessary servicing and or repair."
You may want to place a call to Reg and or the Ford tech line (586)468-1356. Be ready to wait on hold for a long time. Us your cell phone if you get free long distance. Trust me most days you do not want to have to pay by the minute to talk to them! |
thats why I like my old machine shop rebuild. I really hope its something small but it doesn't sould good.
Good luck later dennis |
Reg told me up front that there WAS a warranty with the newer Ford crate engines he was buying through his supplier. We'll see what the boys at BDR can do to rectify this situation.
|
Even with no warranty something as substantial as a cracked block should be covered under "manufacturing defects" as an IMPLIED warranty at least. I mean, come on, you have a right to expect at least reasonable care would be exercised in the use of basic parts! I would consider this a "gross mistake" on Fords part.
|
I would agree however it is plain to see in the Ford book that they will not cover anything. That in no way says Reg will not do something. Just pointing out Ford's warranty on catalog parts as shown.

Here is a quote showing that the engines are now covered under a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty
"FORD RACING PERFORMANCE PARTS TO OFFER LIMITED WARRANTY ON PERFORMANCE CRATE ENGINES Ford Racing's wide variety of performance and production crate engines will now be covered under a limited 12-month/12,000-mile warranty. Engines included under the warranty program include popular favorites such as the 302 and 351cid V8s, as well as production powertrains such as the 4.6-liter DOHC "Mach 1" V8. Ford Racing Performance crate engines are built with Ford quality, they're easy to install and priced right, and now covered under a limited warranty. LAS VEGAS, Nev., Nov. 2 - The engineers at Ford Racing Performance Parts (FRPP) know that in the performance business talk is cheap, and with over twenty years experience in the crate engine business, they have built a strong reputation building performance engines that are factory-quality, easy-to-install, and priced right. That's why Ford Racing is pleased to announce that its line of performance and production crate engines are now sold with a 12-month/12,000-mile limited warranty. "Our line of Ford Racing performance crate engines are developed, built, and tested by engineers using production quality materials and processes," said Jamie Allison, Manager, Ford Racing Performance Parts, "and that's why we put the Ford oval on each engine we sell. The addition of a limited warranty is added assurance for our customers that we stand by our product one hundred percent." Engines covered under the warranty include the FRPP performance and production series powertrains. The performance series includes our small block 302s up to the big block 514s. Production motors in the catalog include the 4.6-liter DOHC V8s from the SVT Mustang Cobra, Mustang Mach 1, and Lincoln Aviator, as well as the 5.4-liter DOHC from the Lincoln Navigator. The 4-cylinder Duratec and Zetec engines from the Focus and Ranger will be covered under the warranty too. More details and specifics about the warranty can be found in the Ford Racing Performance Parts catalog and on their website at: www.fordracingparts.com" |
My question would be starting when?

That article was dated November 2, 2004.

Saps- welcome to my world.
BDR # 139 UT |
Thanks for the welcome, Uncltodd!
Have you had issues? Can you give me the short "travel description" of your world? Thanks! |
UCT - sorry to hear of all the issues you have had.
Saps - bummer! At least you have 'ole #1158 to keep you on the road.:D Most definetely Reg should be able to pull something off regarding the engine. I don't know how many brand new crate motors have such serious defects but it can't be more than 3-5% I would think (see your actually a priveleged winner!).%/ Reg's shop should have thouroughly tuned the motor prior to delivery - I'm curious as to why they didn't notice the problem and investigate then. Best wishes! |
Yeah, poor me. I'm left with only ONE cobra while the BDR is in the shop.
I'm sure Reg and Frank will have a resolution. In their defense, the problem didn't appear until about 200 miles on the motor. |
Got to be careful here to seperate the car manufacturer from the engine builder. Yeah you have smoke issue in your BDR, but it's a Ford Racing issue not a Backdraft issue.
Just like a Boudy edition KC motor. |
Sure it's a Ford issue, but they have the relationship with the Ford supplier and have all the information about the warranty.
They also promised to take care of it when I first talked to them about it. I'm not saying it's their fault or anything, but they're in the position to provide serious help...and I'm sure, knowing them, they will. I've got another call into them. Will follow up once I talk to someone. |
Yes, you have it correct.
|
Was it an actual Ford crate engine from Ford or was it an engine assembled by a local shop calling it a crate engine? If it was a Ford engine than the block and heads would have been new, hard to understand why they failed. Ford produced over 800,000 F150 last year alone, how many engine failures have you heard of?
|
I haven't heard of any...but then again I haven't been listening. I HAVE heard of a lot of assembly problems with the engines direct from Ford (i.e. heads not torqued, valve guides missing, etc)
|
Just an update for anyone who is interested. It's definitely a cracked block. Remember it has less than 400 miles. I've been talking to Ford and the engine has been pulled and shipped to them for inspection. They've said they'll "repair" it if they determine it was their fault.
I hope to know something at the end of next week. I really haven't had a chance to enjoy this car and want to get it back on the road. Cheers! |
