Default VDO speedo is stuck

I knew my car was fast, but according to the VDO speedometer, it is going almost 100mph sitting in my garage. Any ideas on what is causing it to "stick"? It moves when you are driving the car, but is way inaccurate. It shows 100-120 at about 50-60 mph. Fix ideas are very welcome.

You'll have to reset it per the manual and then recalibrate it, unless something is broke. Hopefully you have the manual?

My VDO speedometer also needs calibrated. It is about 10-15 mph off when traveling around 60mph. Do you know where I can get the procedure to calibrate the speedometer? Thanks

Tim,
Instructions, what instructions? I never got any with the car. Has anyone got some for VDO electronic speedos? And, I hope it is not broken either. Maybe a wiring/connection problem. Anyone else had to fix this?

428CJ,
Maybe someone will help both of out with instructions, and/or a fix.

tfarhood,
How nice for you. I am happy that your Autometer equipped car goes over 100mph. But, how does this help with my VDO problem?

Lightbulb Speedo help

Hi guys,
If I remember correctly, hold the trip button in - with the key off, then turn the key on. This will put the unit into set up/adjustment mode. There are two ways to calibrate. 1st is a measured mile, the speedo counts clicks. The other is to adjust speed while driving.
I had a friend drive with the cruise on at 60 mph, me,adjusting as we drove untill my following distance stayed the same. Speedo is set!

hope this helps.
Ted.

Default VDO Website

SkipB

I'm looking for the web site that has the instructions for your gages. I had to calibrate mine last year. If I can't find the web site I'm pretty sure I still have the instruction in the garage somewhere, I could always fax them to you if you want.

Thanks guys for all the responses. And especially thanks to Cashburn for the website link.

I printed out the instructions and decided to recalibrate the speedo today. However, when I got in the car and fired it up, the needle dropped to 0 and somehow it fixed itself! Yep, I took it for a drive and it works perfectly! It must be a miracle. I just hope it holds!

Thanks again!

Sometimes these things fix themselves ... well done.
