Default backdraft vs lone Star

i'm new and still doing my homework...i've been focusing on the backdrafts since i'm 6'4, and i sat in one and found it comfortable....but someone told me to look at Lone Star...any insight would be great...brutal honesty would be better!!!

I'm 6'5" and 280 lbs with a 34" inseam.

I fit "comfortably" in my Backdraft. Certainly, not as much room as my wife's Acura MDX or my Grand Cherokee, but hey, this IS a little car.

I can even get in and out without pushing up along the seat and sitting on the top of the seat to get out, and can get in by placing the right foot in the footwell, sitting in the seat, and bringing the left foot in. I'm 56 years old and not as limber as I once was. If I can get in and out of a Backdraft this easily, I'm sure most people can.

You should be fine at 6'4". But remember this will most likely be your "dream car". YOU have to be happy with it. Don't worry too much about what others think is "right".

Try as many different cars as you can on for size. Only you can decide what is comfortable for you both in fit and the proportions of the vehicles.

To ME, my Backdraft is the best of both fit and proportion. I absolutely LOVE the car. It is a great handling and riding car also.

Good luck!

Cheers!
Dave

Hands down Backdraft, my younger brother is 6'5" and he fits fine. Backdraft maintains the 92" wheelbase as opposed to the stretch 95" wheelbase of a lone star. You cannot go wrong with a BDR on any front.

Good Luck on your search. I'm 6'5" and a stock SPF is tight, but I can fit.

Default bdr vs ls

thx for the insight...i've sat in the superformance but the top of the windshield seemed to be right in my line of sight...a little annoying..some have taken the seat runners out, but i dont want to do that...Re: the LS, anyone have comments on the quality, fit, finish, etc...they are a few hundred miles from me, but i'm not a guy who would know a good weld from a bad...thx again

I am 6'5" and have a BDR. I had the seat made wider by 1.5" and mounted it to the floor and inset into the rear wall. I also had the pedals adjusted to give me a dead pedal spot. I actually have a little too much room. My leg is straight out while depressing the clutch. I had to put a 1.0" spacer under the steering wheel t bring it closer t me.

Default car size

You can change the angle of the windshield on a Cobra. Thus moving it up a little so the top frame will be above you line of sight. This is not hard to do. But if you use a soft or hard top, you can not do this. But most tall people do not use tops.

hey... i'm new as well and still researching. i had three questions:

First, i was wondering the same thing as timhorr (I too am 6'4") but it seems you've answered that question. I seem to gravitate towards the Kirkham; however, it seems to be the most costly. Are they really superior in quality? Are the Backdraft or Lonestar built w/ the same quality?

Also, i have been told that there are very few companies that build the Cobras "right" (i've heard that alot have mechanical problems, though never experienced it). I'm not the most mechanical guy and wonder which companies can build a "complete" car (w/ engine installed & ready to drive home) correctly.

Finally, I am based in Nashville, TN, are there any dealers or clubs here that i could visit to learn more?

thanks for any advice you can give me...

Default small car for the big guy

Slowguy, I live in Florence, Ala about 2 and 1/2 hours from Nashville. We have 14 Cobras in the local area. We meet weekly (Friday nights) to eat and we attend car shows together. Call and come on down, we can let you sit in all of them and go for a ride. Most of these kit can be modified to accept a large guy. If you buy a finished Cobra it has to fit you. If you built a Cobra, you can change things to make it fit you. Seat, pedals, steering wheel location, and a modified foot box and just about any kit will fit the big guy.

timhorr,

I think what everyone is basically saying is that with some work you can make any Cobra fit you. Some may take more work to accomplish this than others.

Don't forget to test drive all the different ones that you can. They are all a bit different depending on engine power and suspension. Somewhere there is just the right combination for you.

Face it, I think that we all agree that any Cobra is better than no Cobra (except maybe that purply pink one with "a "furry" interior that someone posted a pic of while back).

Go for it!

Good luck!

Cheers!

slowguy,
I have a shop in Florence. You will have to travel north though. My shop is in Florence, KY. If you would like to see some Backdraft's I would be happy to answer any of your questions.
