BDR Gastank Weld/ Leak
Hi guys
Has any one had a BDR Gas Tank leak from the actual weld. I had a severe leak coming from the weld causing a large puddle quickly. I'm surprised the the tank is leaking from this weld. I had to empty the tank (by driving) before putting her into the garage. The gage is almost on E and there is still a slow leak. .:CRY: :CRY:
My car was purchased in 10/06 with approx. 3200 miles on her.
Any advice or other experiences on this issue will be greatly appreciated

Get some stuff called Seals All. You can put it right on the leak even with gas running out. That should stop it until you can get your dealer to fix it.

I have sean seals all work for 15 plus years, it is a permanent fix, once applied no other repairs necessary, cost about $4.00

Do you have a stainless steel tank or the newer aluminum ones?

I had two leaks, at the outgoing tube which I fixed with seals all and another at one of the welds at bottom center of tank. I decided to change diff gears and pulled the tank. It was pretty easy, did it by myself. When the tank was out I had a buddy weld it. The seals all was holding fine after two years though. But since the tank came out anyway I just welded it.

its too bad we have to do this in the first place being a new car replica or not. This is a basic function of te vehicle and should alway be perfect if new.

Seals All? I will have to look into that, I've used JB Weld with great success in the past. BUT, the tank has to be removed and kept dry until the the JB sets up.
Couldn't find a link, Google returned "Seals, the top predator" among other misleading links. ?????

I had a small leak at one of the welds. Just enough to make the garage really smell. I had about 500 miles on the car when it showed up.
I took it to a my friends race shop and they fixed it. They took the tank out and welded it.

Seal-all made by the people who make GOOP most WALMARTS have it. gas resistant sealer glue. Great stuff , a must have in tool kits. www.seal-all.com |

So thats why my garage is stinking up my house!!``
I read this thread and checked and I have a leak so small it does not drip on the floor, just stinks the place up. Will fix it tomorrow.

Its unknown why they do this, but it one thing that backdraft must address. Its such a basic automobile function there should be no excuse for this.
Out of my gas tank issue however, I'm very happy with my ackdraft

The leak is probaly from porosity in the weld.
This is a weld defect.
I don't understand why BDR isn't repairing it under warranty.
If there is a history of weld problems, then all tanks should be pressure tested at the factory, either BDR or the supplier of the tanks.
Sealers I would think is a temporary fix or something you would use in a old junker, not a new vehicle.

Plastick tank to stainless tank to aluminuim, how much weight savings is realized. In defense of BDR superformances have the same issues, but I agree with what they cost and risks involved the welds should be soaped with couple inches of water pressure. I would never put one of these tanks under more than inches of water pressure, you might very well have a grenade on your hands.

The stainless steel tank has to go about 30 - 40 lbs.... easy. Had mine out this winter to fix the sender unit and its heavy. Aluminum has to be at least half the weight. I would think they would be putting them under some type of pressure test for at least an hour or so with a gauge. That would find the leaks.

I must say that Jay at Vintage say he going to replace the tank for me propbably a warranty issue. If Anything He been one hell of a support
