backdraft wilwood slaves

Just had my first clutch failure. The shaft unscrewed from the slave and I understand from Reg this has been a problem. Simple solution is to remove the slave cylinder, unscrew the end cap, push the piston out to expose it. Idrilled a 3/32'' hole through the piston and shaft and installed a split pin (3/32) through the piston /shaft assembly. The hole is drilled through the CONE on the piston. There is no way this thing will come off again.

This is a common problem my clutch went out once and sure enough it was rod was loose in slave cylinder. Seems wilwood would put out a better product.

Same Problem, Similar Fix

I incurred the same failure with my Wilwood slave cylinder! I was luckily within a mile of my home and I limped home in second gear.

I also fixed the shaft to the piston with a pin. Works great and no leaks!

Also, thread locker blue works great. I have used thread locker on the last few with no problems. Put it on the input shaft, retaining nuts, and mount.

Best of luck, James

http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/s...0&ppuser=24101On Sat, found a puddle under the car. My Wilwood slave leaked out the front. I took the slave apart and also found that the rod was starting to back out. I think I will try thread lock first as I am not sure how easy it is to drill the cone for a locking pin.

Does have a guess at why it was leaking? I was thinking the seal has gone bad..?

Does anyone know what the Wilwood slave rebuild kit consists of?

Thanks!

Will try posting the pic again...

This is our current setup that seems to be working extremely well. It took a lot of trial and error to settle on this final setup:

Jay: Picture was a little dark so I couldn't see the details. Is this the setup I have on 481?

Yes, or extremely close.

JUS BIT 07-18-2007 08:43 PM

Mark, you can also get a rebuild kit for the Wilwood Slave cylinder at Summit Racing:

It's fairly easy to rebuild.

Bests, James

My Wilwood came apart twice, both times on the track. After the first failure I used locktite, but I think the brake fluid go to it.
I replaced the Wilwood with an almost identical product but at half the price form Speedwaymotors.com. The rod is "peened" to the piston.

Well today my linkage snapped (threaded stud that connects to the clutch fork) Was wondering and maybe you can answer this Mark Brye if I have to take apart the slave cylinder or can I just unscrw the rod and put a new grade 8 stud in it's place

Dinobyte 08-02-2007 06:12 PM

Guys, try the HOWE Racing slave. I replaced two Wilwood slaves with this one and have not had a problem since.

I think I would take apart the slave cylinder. If you just take the rod out, and put thread lock on it, you may get threadlock on the seals. Also, you will not be able to keep the cylinder from sliping in the slave housing when tightening the rod. I would also buy the summit rebuilt kit if you have the Wilwood Slave. I think its like 13 bucks. Then you will have new seals and will not have to worry about any leaks in the near future. Hope I am understandable, had a few drinks:)

Mark Brye 08-02-2007 09:41 PM

If you need a Wilwood rod, I will mail my old one to you. Rod looks in good shape. Just the seal went bad in the slave cylinder housing.

FST FOX 08-02-2007 09:54 PM

well I broke the same rod, so I am going to try to get a good grade 8 stud and that should solve the current problem
