Default BDR #712 is sold and headed west

I can’t believe I finally made the decision. For the last five years owning a Cobra replica is all I have been dreaming about and saving up for. I first started with the plan on purchasing a kit and doing the whole thing from the ground up. Well as most of you know it takes a lot of work just to decide on the kit manufacture, motor, color and everything else you need to plan when you decide to do this.
As time went on and I narrowed it down to a Hurricane kit with a 351W stroked to a 408. So now all I had to do was to keep saving. Well about a year ago my wife asked me in many of our discussions about the car why I wanted to build one rather than buy one already done so I could enjoy it sooner. Well five years ago when the bug got me that was important because I wanted to say “I built that” I was 49 years old now and I think I finally got the point she was trying to make.
So everything changed right then and it was either buy one that someone else built or start looking at those more expensive manufactured cars. I got it down to the BDR or Superformance in short order and have been leaning to the BDR for a lot of the reasons stated on this and other site. The last problem I was left with was to see both cars up close so I could make the final decision.
This weekend was the big roadster show in Pomona CA. and I went to see if I could find a couple of each to get up close and personal with. To my surprise right after I entered the show I saw the big Superformace banner. I could not believe my eyes when I rounded the corner to see the BDR display right next to them. I looked and studied both cars and after about ten minutes the decision for me was a BDR. I talked to the guy from BDR working the show and found him to be informative, very educated and in no way pushy. He took the time in a very busy environment to answer all my questions and even give me things to think about that in five years had not crossed my mind. I could not believe my luck to find out after all this I had been talking to Reg Dodd.
I left the booth and cruised the show but I had to go back and talk some more because the new mod motor car was there and it was really looking like the way to go for me. By the way if you haven’t seen it yet it is unbelievable and priced to compete with anyone. Almost every kit builder I ever talked to said it would end up costing you what this one sells for complete. (That is the honest ones).
I went home and talked about it until my wife was probably sick of me but I ended up going back today with her and a filled out order sheet in hand.

I got Chassis # 712 that is grey with silver stripes. 342R Roush motor. T56 (6) Speed transmission
17” knock offs with Goodyear’s, oil cooler, passenger roll bar ( I have loved my wife for 25 years and don’t care if some thinks they look wrong), toneau cover, ray dot mirror, chrome extinguisher, ceramic coated header and 3M protection.
Sorry if I went on too long but I am sure all of you can remember how you felt the day you bought yours. I look forward to getting to know other owners and connecting with local clubs in So.Cal .
Have a great day all, because I sure did
Bob
