Springs That Hold Side Pipes To Headers
I noticed this afternoon on my BDR that there are only two springs on each of the headers where they connect to the side pipes, although there are four tab sets to connect these springs. Would someone tell me where these springs are available as I'd like to get these empty spots where springs go filled up.

I bought mine at the motocycle shop. Dirt bikes use them to hold their pipes on. There are different sizes. Measure the distance, then get one shorter. The ones I got were in mm lengths). They also have a tool for putting them on ( hook with a loop at the other end for your fingers).

Mine had only a couple on each side as well...when asked, Frank at b/d in Fl. said don't worry about it...:LOL:
I thought it was a poor way for them to save a couple of bucks per car! It definately takes away from a feeling of quality. I repaired on my own. |

The idea for the springs is that it helps eliminate some of the harmonics and provides a little "Give" when a pothole, bump in the road or some other irregularity in the road is encountered. It prevents the shock from being transmitted directly to the thin wall tubing, and susequent welds. The mount that attaches to the frame near the rear wheel should also have a rubber mount incorporated. If it's good enough for the pounding that Moto X bikes receive, then it I think is certainly engineered well enough for these applications. There must be a small amount of movement available or there will be breakage.

I was going to suggest snowmobile exhaust springs but that's a little far North from Texas. I slotted a flat blade on a screwdriver at an angle to make a hook pull tool with a decent handle, it works really well.

get a couple extra. I think the heat cycles weakens the springs and they will continue to break and fall off.

over 4 years and 10k miles. Only 2 springs on each side. That's all that's needed.
