2A Carroll Shelby Memorial Classic – Blackhawk Museum – Saturday May 9, 2015 NOTE: As of noon on 3/20/15 the upper plaza location is now full with 50 vehicles. However, the Blackhawk has arranged to secure the lower plaza parking area so we are able to expand the charity car show spaces available. Please keep this in mind if you decide to donate and show your vehicle. All entrants will be eligible for awards regardless of display location. Thanks. http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...psr4zttk47.jpg Team Shelby – Pacific Coast Region in partnership with the Blackhawk Automotive Museum Blackhawk Museum conveniently located in the San Francisco East Bay suburb of Danville, is excited to bring this 2nd annual charity event honoring the legacy of Carroll Shelby to NorCal “Powered by Ford” enthusiasts. This memorial car show will feature Shelby, Ford GT, Cobra, Tiger and Boss vehicles. Although show entry requires a nominal donation, spectator attendance is free to all. Several special guests, including Peter Brock, are scheduled to attend. A couple of vehicle surprises are in the works too. Tim McGrane, Executive Director of the Blackhawk Museum (and a former Barrett Jackson executive) will be on hand to help judge entries and issue some neat trophies! RSVP’s and pre-payment of a charity donation of $35 (or more if you wish :-) per entered vehicle is required for this event so we can anticipate parking layout on the museum’s photo-op perfect plaza. Upper plaza entries will be limited to the first 50 vehicle reservations. As noted above, additional charity car show spaces are available for reservation on the lower plaza parking area. Please use the GoFundMe link below to facilitate this transaction. When your payment is confirmed, this will be noted on the roster below. Donated entry fees will be shared with the Carroll Shelby Foundation The Carroll Shelby Foundation and Wheels for Chairs Links Payment Link: Carroll Shelby Memorial Classic by SVT NAJA - GoFundMe - Reservations are requested by Sunday May 3rd. Thanks! So mark your calendars and post-up if you’re interested in joining us with your entry - or as a spectator, for a great day at the Blackhawk Museum honoring Carroll Shelby with other “Powered by Ford” enthusiasts. Please note the year and model of your vehicle when replying so trophy categories / quantities can be determined in advance based upon expected attendance. Note: For ease of editing, I’ll maintain the list of Memorial Classic car show entries in Post #2 immediately below. The show starts at 10am and ends at 2pm. Owners entering their vehicles in the show should arrive by 8:30am to allow adequate time for staging, and once on the plaza, will not be able to exit until sometime after 2pm. Please note that parking at one edge of the plaza is sometimes subject to overspray from the water fountains in windy conditions, although this is rare. Also, there are several restaurants in the complex to enjoy lunch at. The Blackhawk Automotive Museum is located at 3700 Blackhawk Plaza Circle, Danville, CA 94506 Here is an aerial view of the upper plaza where the car show will take place and reserved spectator parking appears in the lower right corner https://maps.google.com/maps?q=danvi...classic&dg=brw Any question, please ask here or send me a g-mail message as noted below. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday May 9th in Danville! Team Shelby – Pacific Coast Region can now confirm some really exciting news! Working with Tim McGrane, Executive Director of the Blackhawk Automotive Museum in Danville, we have been able to arrange for CSX2299 – one of the original 6 Shelby Daytona Coupes – to be present for designer Peter Brock’s presentation at the 2A CSMC at BAM on May 9th. Here is a video clip of No.13 followed by a brief description of its historical significance. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsHPMd_cCZ8[/ame] CSX-2299 (blue No. 13 Daytona Coupe): Shelby wanted to race Cobras in Europe in 1964, but the Cobra roadsters hit an aerodynamic “wall” at about 150 mph and were unsuitable for the long, high-speed European circuits. Shelby had designer Pete Brock pen a fastback coupe body. Brock’s handiwork allowed the cars to go 20 mph faster just based on more efficient aerodynamics. Six coupes were built, and they were nicknamed the “Daytona Coupe.” CSX-2299 was the second one built, and it had the best racing record of the six examples. It finished first in the GT class and fourth overall in its debut race at Le Mans with Dan Gurney and Bob Bondurant (handing Ferrari its first defeat in the GT class at Le Mans since the class was established in 1959), and took the same result in the season-ending Tourist Trophy at Goodwood in England with Gurney. It also took first in GT and second overall in the 1965 24 Hours of Daytona (Jo Schlesser/Hal Keck) and first in GT/fourth overall in the 1965 12 Hours of Sebring (Bondurant/Schlesser), helping Shelby become the first (and, to date, only) American manufacturer to win the FIA GT World Manufacturers Championship. CSX-2299 is considered the most valuable Cobra in existence. This rare appearance is made possible by the generous donations of Miller Motorsports, Reliable Carriers and AIG Insurance. We hope you can join us to enjoy this very special addition to the Memorial Classic! Spots are filling up fast for this event. Ted Taormina has blocked 10 spots (6 remaining) for AC Cobras that want to participate. Let me or Ted know if you want to be part of Ted's group for this event. Last year was very enjoyable, well run with lots of eye candy and a great setting! Gary Brauch |

Wow - 20 Cobras in the Snake Pit. :) See you all in one week! |

I may come by, though I wouldn't be able to get there until 11:30 or so. Is there a safe place to park the Cobra at Blackhawk if I don't participate in the event? |

When you arrive, have one of the attendants in the Lower Plaza call me and I'll have you and your car escorted into the reserved parking area. Peter Brock's presentation will be underway - but you'll still have time to see CSX2299! Best, Jim |

Thanks Jim, really appreciate it. Could you please pm me your last name? |

This was my second year attending the Carroll Shelby Memorial Classic and just like last year, a lot of fun. A bit bigger event this year with almost 80 cars between the upper and lower parking lots. Very well organized and attended, Jim and the Shelby crew along with the Blackhawk staff did a great job. Hats off to all that brought their cars out to the show. Peter Brock gave a very interesting presentation and the stunning Daytona Coupe CSX-2299 from the Miller Motorsports collection was on display inside the museum, quite an event to have both the man and the machine there to tell the story. The rest of the Blackhawk collection is something to see, not one to miss. By my count there were six original Cobras along with numerous continuation and replica Cobras. Jay’s #2124 is a beautiful example of an early car. The Cobra Experience bought four originals, one 289 and threes 427s. The 289 #2579 is one of a handful of automatics produced, they also bought two narrow hip 427s #3142 & #3158. Wade, the new caretaker of Dick Smith’s iconic #3035 bought it for all to see, hear and enjoy. Lots of Shelby Mustangs from ’65 to ’69 and large contingent of very cool 2007 to 2014 Shelbys as well. There was also a very nice Tiger, two Ford GTs, GT-40, Daytona Coupe and lots other Shelby related cars. I did not make it to the lower parking lot, so I missed a bunch. Something for every Shelby enthusiast, so many great cars to look at and nice people to meet. Here are a few photos from the main plaza. - Tim #2124 http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...pselutmhnp.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps5d4xiloz.jpg #2579 http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps9knbxvls.jpg #3158 http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...psi8dzpzsg.jpg #3035 http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...psb89evaua.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...pswfxwm4n2.jpg #3142 http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...psydvsxfy7.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...psxy8yq9ab.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...psyvmqd8vd.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...psxs81wdlk.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps5dywxqbi.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...psgykqoeyo.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps4ywud06k.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...psxwx7xdpf.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...psja2ml80x.jpg |
