4-post lift
 

Today, I ordered a Bend-Pak 4-post lift through Kagens Auto Parts. $3,403 including sales tax (it's built in Calif. and I live in Calif.), and installation. They told me that it should be installed sometime in the week of the 13th of this month. Now, I'll be able to do my own maintenance, and get my other car in the garage.

Congrats Lew, you have just made one of the best purchases of your lifetime. I have an Eagle lift and it sure makes things easier. If we had been real smart, we would have bought lifts before we bought the cars! You will not be sorry. Happy New Year!:D

lew...you will be amazed at how much you will enjoy your lift...i was so happy with my 2 post rotary lift that i added a 4 post stinger lift..stacking 2 cars over 2 for storage and ease of maintenance on the cars. enjoy..just get a chair on wheels to scoot around under the car lowering it to a comfortable height for any undercarriage detailing...plus a parts/tool cart on wheels to drag along with it...enjoy. bill

Lew, glad you were able to purchase a lift. I believe we talked via email a couple of times about the STINGER lifts. I does make sense to purchase one locally made and save some shipping costs, since these things are heavy!

If you hear of anyone on the east coast wanting a lift, send them my way. I believe I could put one in their garage for about the same money you spent!

Congratulations, you'll love it. I put a Superlift 4-post lift in my garage a few months ago. The price was about the same including shipping from Kansas. The people were very good to work with and the lift works great. I had to put it together myself but anyone who owns a cobra could do it. I got the caster package that allows me to reposition it by myself if I need to. If you don't have a local company that can install a lift, check Superlift out at www.superlifts.com

If you're building from scratch, this lift might be just the ticket. No moving the bottom car to get to the top one. Car handle two or three cars.

I purchased a Backyard Buddy 4 post lift about 3 years ago and I have been happy with it. It was under $3,000. The advantage of this over a pit is that you can stack cars as well as using it to work on them. You can also add oil pans to prevent leakage on to the car below. A two post unit has the advantage of being able to lift from the frame so you have access to the suspension but it's more of a hassle if you want to stack cars.

If you stack cars remember you need enough height in the garage. I have a 10 ft. ceiling but can't stack two full size cars. I can store the Cobra and a Lincoln Towncar, however.

My lift was shipped to a truck yard and I had to go pick it up. I used a boat trailer to get it back to my place. I then installed it by myself using an engine hoist. The instruction were easy to follow although it would have been a bit easier if I would have got someone to help. It is free standing (does not need to be bolted down). I got mine with a central trolley which can be used to jack up either the front or rear of the car so you can take the wheels off. I also got wheels that can be installed to move the unit. I have never used them. The two post units I have seen need to be bolted down.

Speaking of Lifts..Santa Claus (Mrs) bought me a four post lift this year! In fact I just used it for the first time today.

American Lift. 7K, capacity, with Casters, (and they work!) Three day delivery total cost- $2,175.00! Not the biggest, not the most "heavy duty", but for small shops and home use...it works great!

Congratulations on the lift. One is on my shopping list for this year. My shop got flooded on December 16th and I am still trying to repair and fix the damage to the shop and house. So Cobra and shop things are in slow motion for now.

I will list some good reasons to not put a hole in your precious shop floor. This is from past experience.

You will be surprised to find out how big a hole you have to dig to get under a full car length. The pit will most likely be 18' long and should be a minimum of 30" wide so you can move around (tight). Yes you can put boards over the hole when not in use but the surface is not as stable or strong as a concrete slab. If you have high ground water or are prone to flooding you have a perfect lap pool. So much for taking the hose to the shop floor because the water will wind up in the pit. You can put in a sump pump or make concrete curbing but that's more problems of another type. If you are in a cold climate that hole will always be the coldest spot in the shop. If you haven't got the money for the lift a pit will do, but trust me you are so much better off with a lift. Some one mentioned that certain lifts can actually increase your shop space by storing one of the cars overhead. Finally if you are afraid of enclosed or tight spaces that pit will be HELL!!!

The best way to go !
I have a 12000 lb 4 post Rotary extra long extra wide drive thru and capability to for 2 inside scissor jacks ,as well as a 4 wheel alignment up grade .5200.00 installed its worth every penny .I also have a 2 post lift but prefer the 4 over the 2 .

It's made for 8' ceilings, but higher is better! The post are right about 6' tall, of course you add the height of the car to it and you might end up with a new "sunlight" in your garage! :)

Since you've seen the shop you know how packed it is. The roller package is a true blessing! We assembeled it in less than 2 hours, (book said 4) and then proceeded to roll it all over the shop just to see how it would work. With only inches to spare between parked cars, two of us "drove it" from end to end without a problem! One guy can move it easily, but two guys definately have more control.

Should have done this years ago!

I really love the post about too much noise coming out of your sidepipes. When mine finally gets here, I was worried I could hear myself think, and that is a dangerous thing.
SPF #1560 should hit the states any day now. Alum. 427 is almost ready for install. One more dyno run to find afew more ponies.

I have a four poster lift also. I bought the the house with it already in place. Mine is a stinger 6,000lb. lift I would not want to try to build a car without one. Me and all my neighbors all love it.I would tell any car lover,if you have the room and can afford one please buy one.

Yesterday I went over to my "Toy Chest" (warehouse / storage) to see about installing a lift. Bay is 30' x24' with 14' ceiling so I have plenty of room. Only to find out that the owner and local zoning doesn't allow any automotive work on the premises, not even hobby stuff like I tried to persuade them it was.

Now comes PLAN "B":

I checked into another post here on CC about enclosed trailers, which I also need. I really like the "Trailex" low profile type trailer with 11' long ramps. What this is saying to me is that I could drive a car into the trailer, back trailer up to garage door opening, put ramps in place up on jack stands, pull car out onto ramps, and whalla, a low profile lift. At least it is up off the ground with some access below. I already have the floor dolly to scoot around on. The rear door is an awning type, and the alum ramps are detachable and stored under trailer when not in use.
