I have replaced that forward, pass side, mounting "ear"on a few early SPF's. Newer ones are reinforced much better. Your first clue is often the diff can nose dive a bit and then the CV joint rubs on the frame rail, making a clunking sound. Only problems were on high torque cars that were run very hard. I would inspect that area as a routine when servicind SPF's however.
