Shelby wins...or.....

The current issue of Autoweek states that Shelby stopped the Brock/Superformance coupe from entering the USA. It seems that he was given a copyright for the design since he continues to sell the coupe. So our government is holding the cars.pending a decision..

jhein 07-25-2003 11:29 AM

"Shelby wins"... Hmmm, maybe a bit premature, don't you think?

That would have been like Al Jazeera claiming final victory for Al Queda after 9/11, or for Saddam after the UN weapons inpectors were kicked out back in the 90's, when in fact, these events just turned out to be the begining of the end for both of them.

I just heard that the SPF Coupe has been released and the trademark held by Shelby declared invalid. The Coupe will debut at Hot August Nights in Reno. Yep, pretty cool. Check out the link: http://performanceunlimited.com/scof . Enjoy.

ah hah...so, the death notice of the spf coupe was premature....instead, it seems it is alive and well and released from the grips of CS's claims of trade dress which has been declared invalid. interesting how the press coverage now benefits spf and the coupe more so than CS..... my interest in seeing the coupe is even greater now , and the PR of this issue and subsequent release from customs captivity will get wider publicity than if nothing had been said/claimed by cs in the first place. looking forward to seeing one, thanks to autoweek and cs for tipping me off otherwise i might have not known about it for some time. bill, SPF #156.

I read the posts on the other site regarding the trademark. I am happy to read that the Brock coupe will be released.

I wonder what Brock felt about Shelby when the car was impounded.

jhein 07-25-2003 12:04 PM

I don't know, but it'd be my guess he was pi$$ed. On the other hand you never know, maybe SPF had anticipated the whole thing and that's why the car has already been released.

This sort of action by Shelby

Will forever tarnish his reputation. IMO, it makes him look petty and scared. He could have, insread, gone out in style, and been remembered as a hero.

Or something like that.

Crying shame to see Brock, legendary for his design of the coupe, being attacked by the legendary "originator" of the same. There is no joy in mudville over such "family" fights.

I'd like to be a fly on the wall at the next SAAC convention attended by Brock.....He (rightfully I think) has always considered the coupes 'his' babies and it would be interesting to hear what he has to say about all this. Brock spoke a few years ago at the Daytona gathering at the Petersen, and his comments were frank and enlightening. Seems to be a very down to earth guy. I wish him the best! I think the car looks great, too.

When i was a kid...

You know, when I was a kid, there was this kid named "Pogo Underwood". And Pogo would play cars with you, until your dirt garage for your cars looked better than his.

Then he would come over and kick your garage until all the cars were dirty, and all the roads you made in the dirt were gone.

I never liked Pogo.

The guy has turned into a frickin' loser!

If they ever make a movie about him, they had better call it "Legend Gone Bad".

Pretty soon you will be seeing Shelby on one more list...

Michael Jackson

Mike Tyson

Carroll Shelby

Beautiful car and I think Shelby has looked petty for awhile now. It doesn't surprise me that he would try and get it obstructed, good for Brock.
I thought CS had a heart transplant, not removal.

BULLITT 07-29-2003 03:20 PM

Shelby Wins??????????????????????

Pete's car is based on the AC-Wilmont Coupe.
It Has No ties to Carroll or Shelby American Enterprise inc.
He should just go home & be a nice little ol' redneck, as he said in the 80's, "If it wasn't for the kit car industery the cobra would have been forgotten".
He has already lost a lawsuite against AC, The Court's have concluded that AC has had the copyrights to the Body since 1952 when AC first created the"Cobra" body, & Shelby is NOT intitled to the cpoyrights he has claimed, Nor is He the originator of the"Cobra Body" as setforth by Mr. Shelby.

If I made you mad with the "redneck" portion, I am sorry, but The Man,The Legend is fast becoming a Bitter, frustrated, angry old man.%/

At one time I admired him as a real pioneer and the heart and soul of auto performance. My opinion is changing rapidly. I think he is turning into the Grinch that stole the kit car spirit.
