Dyno tune in south bay area?
Can anyone recommend a dyno tune shop in SJC area? Not looking for racing tune, just a complete tune on a dyno w/ carb adjust, timming, etc. Thanks Mark.

Contact Elliot Franklin at 271.2895. He works with a Dyno tune shop across from his shop.

Mark: Let us know how happy you are with your results. I have been thinking of a good dyno tune myself. Stan: Any more info on the quality of Elliot's work? Thanks, Rich.
|
I'm very happy with Elliot's work and I have referred many members to his shop. He works on mustangs and rep cobras both street and race.
Elliot also works on SPF builds and usually has a project in his shop. He also will repair and build both street and race engines. His shop is sometimes open on sat. Maybe I could arrange a tour if there is interest. Stan |
I would not hesitate to have Elliot work on my car, and I know that Elliot works on many Nor Cal Shelby club cars.
|
Mark, does this have anything to do with the air cleaner post breaking off? I to have heard Elliot does good work.
|
Stan,
I'm interested. I've been thinking about getting my car on a dyno too. Chris |
Hi mark,
I have had elliott work on #1723 many times with great results!!! He just installed my Halon fire system. I would not hesitate to call him. Did you get your air cleaner post fixed? Greg SPF 1723 |
Thanks for all the info. Elliot has worked on my car before, I was very happy with his work. I didn't know he had access to a dyno, I'll call him first. Got the air cleaner post problem fixed. First tried to drill pilot hole for easy-out, and the drill drove the broken shaft further in. Since it was brass(????) I just sunk a sharp regular screwdriver into it and brought it out. New post is NOT brass.
I spoke with Speed Merchant about dyno tune, $150/hr, estimate 2/3 hours. Sounds like a long time, to me, for a tune unless there are some problems. I'll let you know what I come up with. Mark. |
Hey Mark,
Check with Zoom This (Bill) about a dyno tune - he told he that he has a lead on a dyno tune place in the East Bay with which he was really happy. Another lead for a dyno would be at Apex Motorsports in Santa Clara - they focus more on late model mustangs (http://www.apexmotorsports.com/) Last, you might want to talk to Byron Race (he posts here wrt his Cobra build), as he's #1 in the area of tuning late model mustangs (chips) - I don't know if he tunes carbs... Good luck, Randy R... |
Call a place in Livermore called Modacar Auto Accessories. They have a new chassis dyno - inertia roller. When I went last year he charged $40 for three pulls or $80/hr to tune while strapped to the dyno. I spent no more than 1 hour on the dyno doing carb jet changes. Make sure you have all your tools and parts ready to go, since they aren't allowed to help you wrench. They also have a good A/F ratio sniffer which was extremely helpful in measuring A/F ratios after jet changes, along with the dyno read out.
By the way, I gained 35 hp by moving my A/F ratio from 10.5:1 to 13:1 under WOT. Had no idea I was running that rich! |
Mark Dyno West is at 664D Stockton ave next to Elliott's shop. Paul, the owner was the tuner at speed merchant. Give Paul a call for a dyno tune. Dyno West 408 298 3968

Any additonal recommendations for a Dyno shop that can also tune?
|
There's a shop in Pacheco that uses a Mustang eddy current dyno. BRG Racing.
http://www.brgracing.com/dyno.html I had my car there last summer for some work. They charged me $120/hour for tuning on the dyno. They now advertise $125/hr. It all starts to add up when you are tuning on a dyno because the motor has to cool a little between pulls or you get skewed results due to heat generation during a full pull. Usually 20 minutes with fans blowing helps cool the motor between pulls. I did all my own work on the tune up, although these guys will work on your car too at the same price. Bill |
Correct me if I'm wrong. Please. I thought that Elliot moved up to Auburn.
Just a thought, ByronRACE seems to have been well connected to a tuner in the same area that Mustang Corral was working with. Let us know how it goes, Scott. |
Please accept my apologies for potentially stealing this thread, but is there someone in the Bay Area, preferably the Peninsula, who can track prep a car for NorCal SAAC events? Would Elliot be able to do this?
|
Hey Rodney,
Sure, Elliot can do this, however he's up in Auburn. Closer to home are Hall Fabrication and Top of the Hill. You may also want to check out Custom Alignment. Last, you might want to review the "friends of the club" section of the Nor Cal Shelby Club. Hope this helps, Randy... |
Hi Randy,
Thank you for the recommendations. Custom Alignment is close, but I've only been there for tire replacement and alignment. Hall and TOP aren't a hop, skip and jump, but definitely not impossible. I appreciate the help. |
I was turned on to Dyno West by Mustang Corral.
Paul was really great at helping me work through all the problems I had with the crummy motor I bought from Ford Performance Solutions in LA. He was very fair with pricing. |

There's also Roger Krause in Castro Valley - he does track setup also... Good luck, Randy... |
