Livermore Dyno Day
Is anyone in the club that didn't go to the Dyno Day in Santa Clara on Feb 25 have an interest in going out to the Modacar dyno off S. Vasco?? They are not normally open on Saturday's, but will be with advance notice. I am suggesting late March, early April. Sean the owner said he will open the shop for our cars for $150/hour. So, if we get a handful of cars we can split up the cost. For example, if we have 4-5 cars show up and each car spends about 45 minutes on the dyno (including tune time with jets or timing) our cost is around $600 split 4-5 ways, or $120-$150 each. I've been out there a few times and never spent more than 45 minutes doing test and tune on my old motor.
Greg Tripp and I discussed a need for better A/F ratio readings at part throttle and full throttle than what we got at Scott Performance. If you're interested, let me know. Bill |
Bill, i'd definitely be interested. Please let me know. Thanks!

Chris. Give me your e-mail address. The one listed in the BACC registry bounced. Send to wgmeyer@sbcglobal.net or reply here.

Send you an email. Thanks!

Bill,
If I get my oil leak fixed I may go for a ride on the Dyno. I'd love to see my A/F for the Webers. "Mr. Potato Head" aka Larry Davi |
So far, I'm shootin' for 3/25 or 4/1. Are either of these dates good for you Larry?? I have Greg Tripp, myself, Giovanni, Rich and Alden so far. If the dates work for you, I'll call Modacar and make a dyno reservation.
|
I should be good for either day. LMK.

I called Modacar and the dyno operator is out of town on 4/1. He will call me tomorrow to verify if 3/25 is ok, since his calendar is at home today. Guess when they take dyno reservations they don't check with the dyno operator!? Grrr... Be that as it may, we can pick 4/8 or 4/15 if 3/25 is out. Let me know if either of the new April dates work.

Bill: Thank for getting this together. I'm now over how disappointed I was with how my engine ran at Scott Performance. :o It was recommended that I go up a couple of jet sizes, which I am ready to do, but it is obvious that I need a much less restrictive air cleaner (700+ CFM). The Cobra air cleaner that came with my car flows 950 CFM with a K&N E-1963 filter, but is so long that I would have to remove my nifty (and expensive) puke tank. I suppose I'm going to have to remove my turkey pan, but there still isn't room for an air cleaner that will flow enough. I'd really like to stick with some kind of K&N filter, as I like their technology, but there is no obvious choice. I'm not desperate enough to uglify my bonnet with a giant scoop, but I wonder if I could live with the rear of the bonnet raised a little, to make room for a taller filter. Perhaps the K&N 66-3040 Drop Base? I've written K&N to see if they can help.
Anyway, if you still have room, I think I'll be ready to join you folks April 1, say the late shift, so I can have breakfast at Baji's earlier. But I will need more info than at Scott's. Especially more thorough A/F statistics, and perhaps CFM measurements as well. I'm looking forward to getting some more beans showing at the rear wheels this time! :p Rich |
Rich...glad to hear you're over the depression of a lean motor. Welcome aboard the Livermore dyno day! By the way, 4/1 is not a date we can use due to the dyno operator being out of town that Saturday. Read my posting above for details.
I have a brand new K&N 3x14 drop based air cleaner assembly you can get from me. It does not fit correctly on my motor due to the tall intake and phenolic carb spacer and it touches the hood scoop on each side. I bought it for $106 retail and it's just hanging on my garage wall over the workbench. I can bring it to the dyno pull if you like. If you really like it, you can take it off my hands. |
Hi Guys,
A couple of thoughts... 1. I remember Ted telling us at Scott's that since his A/F meter was not working right, he would give us another weekend "free" on his dyno, so that we can get accurate A/F readings. Does anyone else remember this? 2. WRT needing more air, I think we all suffer from not getting enough fresh air. Have you checked out this thread: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...984#post618984 ??? In it is link to this site: http://www.universalspinners.com/autoparts.html This guy makes a pretty nifty drop aircleaner. I don't know how it compares to the K&N 3x14 drop, but it sure looks good and functional. See ya, Randy R... |
I heard the same thing Randy. Another chance for the guys who missed it as well.
|
Hey guys,
I could ask ted if he fixed his machine and if we could try another run for A/F numbers?. By the way Bill, I still want to try that filter to see if it fits!!! Thanks, Greg |
I might possibly, probably, maybe make it to the next one at Scott's. I want to get mine done along with the alingment before the Reno trip.
Rich, A while back somebody had a cool post on a high flow air filter. I looked like it was about 14"x9" with the hole top of it an air filter also. I think the top was kinda rounded. I know Bill and Greg would like it because it was blue. I am sure it was here on Club Cobra. Scott |
Arn't all Cobras Blue?...LOL:LOL:

Ok, we're committed for a Dyno Day at Modacar in Livermore for Saturday, 3/25/06 from 9-2:30 pm. Dyno operator has to be outa there by 2:30 pm. I have Mike LaGrone, Larry Davi, myself, Giovanni, and Alden so far.
Modacar is at 6583 Las Positas Road (off S. Vasco) Livermore. 925-371-5888. Casey will be manning the dyno and shop owner John has reserved us for 3/25. John says, cash only on Saturday's. Anyone have any requests for a time slot other than me for 9:00 am? Just chime in. If not, we can all motor out there from Athens at 8:30 Saturday the 25th. Bill |
Bill,
Does this guy just run the Dyno or we help tune the carb(s) as well? I know my 2X4 hollys have issues it would be great to get the car on the dyno, I just do not have a clue about vintage Hollys%/ If he will help (or someone else) will be there to help count me in! |
Greg: I am interested in another run on Ted's dyno with a complete A/F test with no additional charge. Has anyone talked to Ted yet? Sounds like you and I are both interested in Bill's K&N filter, *if* we can get it to fit. Scott, that 14" x 9" filter sounds interesting; I' going to try and find that thread, but I am fearful it went into the ether when the last server crash happened. Why can't this be easier? :( Rich
|
Rich,
I'll stop by there tomorrow and talk with ted. I'll let you know what he says. Greg |
Mike.....Casey the dyno operator does not assist in tuning. He'll give general advice, hold a tool for you, but is not allowed to wrench on anyone's car. I would be more than glad to help, but I have no working knowledge of balancing A/F ratios with 2x4 setups. From what I recall from the looks of the setup, you need to remove one of the carbs to change jets right? That could lead to expensive dyno time while still strapped to the rollers.
Rich and Greg - let me know if you decide not to do the Livermore dyno on the 25th. |
