Cobra Insurance ?
I will be the new owner of the (used) 2003 SPF cobra soon, and I want to add this car into my existing 21st Century Insurance, but they are too confuse about the VIN#, I ask'em IF I can insure the car for $50K premium and IF whatever happen to car they would have to pay out $50K, they do not carry this policy
For the folks who live in the bay area, how do you insure your car, please advice Thanks TC |
Look up Grundy Insurance -- they insure collector cars -- only collector cars. They know what you have and will give you a good rate (my new car based on a $50 K valutation is $700 per year.

TC,
Since the car that you're buying is already registered in CA under SB100, the VIN number that the CHP assigned should be on the car and pink slip (so the VIN shouldn't be an issue). Maybe your insurance company doesn't want to write an "agreed value" policy or they don't insure replicas. My Farmers agent is a car guy (I insured another replica through Farmers) and he was ready to write the policy, but his preference was that the car be full registered (i.e. post SB100) before he insured it. I decided to go with Tom Foltz at Northwest Insurance 800-683-1165. Tom called me right back and sent me a detailed/full application via email. Doug |
TC: I ended up adding my Cobra to my existing State Farm Homeowner's and Brand X policies. Very reasonable price and excellent agent, if you're interested. Rich

When I got my car insured 7 years ago, I just added had it added to my existing policy with "agreed value". I've got a provisional policy 5K annually, car events etc.... the Interpretation of that is pretty open and the sprirt of the policy is that your not making your car a daily driver. Premimum is below $500/year and I have not found the 5K limit an issue (and I do drive it quite a bit, events in norcal & socal weekends...). No matter which insurance you opt for you will need an appraisal to validate your cars value so you should go ahead and get that while shopping around for insurance.
Since it's been 7+ years for me and this has got me thinking that I should probably get a updated appraisal myself. See you and your new addition at breakfast soon. Mike |
Insured through Hartford / AARP (old fart) for under $400 per year added to my existing policy with two other vehicles. Did not need an apprasal. Insured for $55,000. They just told me I needed to keep the receipts from the vehicle.

I've used Grundy's for 8 years. No complaints.

Try Malinda Geiger at ANPAC. She is located in Brentwood. Cheap rates, no mileage limits. Agreed value with an easy form. Plus she is a sweetheart to deal with.

My regular insurance is State Farm for my cars and my house. As my car was built in the early 90's but it was dissambled when I got it, they would not insure it as a car because it was in parts and my home owners would not insure it because it was titled. State Farm said " no problem if it was a completed car" so I went through Classic here. Once it is together I will check back with them but if they are higher or even only a little bit lower I will stay with Classic. I only have it insured for 25K right now because I will only have about that much in it when it is done. $352 per year. After completion I will have it appraised and will up the $ then.

Like Kirt I'm also using ANPAC. I've got a San Jose based agent. We actually switched all our cars and homeowners policy over to them based on their rates. I can look up the agents info if you are interested.

This seem like a little low and hard to believe Regards TC |
State Farm here also.
7500 miles per year and no limits on anything else. High liability gives me around $600 per year cost. Jim |

State Farm
State Farm Here...
When dealing with State Farm remember this... A "Cobra Kit Car that isn't done yet" is not insurable, but a "Cobra Replica undergoing restoration" is absolutely welcome. Additionally, you should appraise the car and have it insured at agreed value if you ever hope to get near what it's worth in the event it's stolen or totaled. Byron |
ByronRACE,
That is a good bit of info. I will need to talk to my State Farm agent. Terry |
The Farmer agent I deal with does not need appraise, I signed the policy today with agree value of $50 for 176/ 6 mths
