Does anyone else have the day off and want to go for a drive? |

It looks like you beat Greg to the post. Greg and I talked today about doing a drive through the hills to the coast or something. We could even go the other way towards the valley over Mines road. As long as we stay away from the major freeways, it should be nice.
I might go to work first thing in the morning, then get ready to head out. That would give the overcast a chance to burn off.

 Scott,
I was thinking about heading south on McKean and then cutting west through Watsonville to the coast then up through SC and back over 17. Like you said, the fog should be gone by the time we get there.

Having said that, I don't really care where we go, just looking forward to getting out with you guys again.

I'm still trying to isolate a problem that cropped up on Saturday (squeal from alternator or fan belt?). The altnerator bracket bolt had backed out and was loose when I got home. I tightened the bolt and the belt, but the squeal came back after I test drove the car on Sunday.
I'm going to try and take a look at it tomorrow. I'll be up for a drive on Friday (not too early) if I can fix the problem.

I might want to go for a drive also as long as we avoid traffic and it's not too early. I don't want to wake up my neighbors on a holiday!

I'm interested for sure. We are having Turkey round 2 at our place Friday night so I can't be out all day, but now that the car is finally running well enough to drive I'd love to take it out. |

Hmmmm.... I would except I have to take my daughter to the DMV to get her termporary license.
So I drove the FFR to work today. Had my ski jacket on and wasn't too bad at 48 deg. |

Doug,You might want to take the belt off and spin each item seperatly to make sure all is good. I think that would only be the water pump and alternator. Before I upgraded my alternator, I would only get 4k to 5k out of them.

 Chuck,
That sounds good. We could meet at the Kooser Starbucks then head up Almaden Exp, McKean, Uvas, Watsonville Rd, Hecker Pass, North on 1, then as an alternate, we could come back on old San Jose road to Summit rd over the freeway and back down Bear creek.
Just an idea.

 Scott,
Yep. Your way is much better than going back on 17.

I'm now thinking (if there is no fog) of running up to 84 and coming back down on Skyline to 9. Google maps shows that as about a 3 1/2 hour loop, but the route gives anyone who decides to keep it shorter the option to cut back over at Santa Cruz.

Meet up at Starbucks at 10?

 What does everyone think?

Sounds good to me. Which Starbucks? Kooser, Bascom or Saratoga and Hwy 9.Danette is also thinking of coming along.
Has anyone been on Empire Grade before? It looks like a nice twisty road. They had it listed on the motorcycle site.

I have this Friday off too and would love to join you guys for a run. I live in S.F. so just give me a time and an address/spot where I should meet up with the group.
I second the motion for a little later start as I need a 1 hour lead time if I'm meeting the gang in S.J. I'm sure I'll get the stink eye from the neighbors if it's too early.

Tan,I have had some small leaks on my hose's were they are clamped, and once on the thermostat cover. You might also check the cap first to make sure it is okay.
So far it looks like we will be meeting at one of the Starbucks around 10ish. Haven't got to much input from the others yet.

 Scott,
Not been on Empire Grade. Another option for adding twists and turns wiould be to take Hicks to McKean. I know there's plenty of them there.

I have no idea which Starbuck's is most convenient for everyone, so someone else call it.

Please keep me posted on Danette's decision, as Milana would also come along if she wasn't the only significant other.

I'm game... Just need to know the address of Starbucks and time. I'll either be solo or with my son (his choice). |
