Interior shop

I'm ready to throw an interior in the beast before the WSCB.

I have a couple shops in the S. Bay that I'm not all that impressed with.

I need carpets, panels, and kicks...that's it. It's for a West Coast Cobra and I really don't care for the look of the stock interior so that's not an option.

Can someone make a recommendation? A good rod&customs interior shop that doesn't want $5K for a simple job (Like Sid Chavers quoted) is what I'm after.

I've heard good reviews about Cook's in Redwood City. I've never had anything done by them, but a couple of noteworthy Tiger guys have recommended them.

I Am Getting Mine Done, The Whole Thing Trunk, And Inside The Car, All With Binded Edges, Also The Best Carpet You Can Get, There Even Gunna Install My Floor Insulation, Im Using A Product From Quite Ride Solutions.its Running About 1500 Bucks For Everything.they Did My Seats As Well And They Came Out Very Nice.the Seats Were Extra Though.

$5000 WOW, Sid must be busy....Last summer he quoted me $150 to cover my dash. The guys next door at Bascom wanted just under $300, and I don't see their stuff on the cover of Street Rodder......

There is a place on El Camino that comes highly recommended. The name escapes me, but it's on the north side of ECR just east of Lawrence behind the car wash. I'll get the name tomorrow if you are interested.

Sids shop was my first choice. I just about fell over when he quoted that price. I figured maybe 2K tops. After all, we're talking about carpet, door panels, kick panels, and a trunk liner. The seats, dash, and area behind the seats have no upholstery. Everything is flat panel.

"About 5K give or take $500" was the verbal, which was made after seeing interior photos, not the car itself. Perhaps he just didn't want the job, thought I was a millionaire, or didn't like me.

I visited Cooks. The shop looks busy, and so far the service shows that he may be too busy to take the work on in time for the WSCB. I was there last Tuesday and met the owner (Craig Lynch), who was knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. It looked like a great fit. A quote was promised to arrive a day or two later, I've called 4 times, and nothing so far. In fact, in 4 calls I spoke to a person once...the rest of the time, I got the machine and left friendly messages. I'll go down there again this week. Hopefully my experience will improve. My guess is it won't...it's standing room only in that shop, I think he's buried beyond hope.

So, if you have the info for that other shop, or any others...it's probably time to open up the search again.

Just heard from Cooks; they want just under 3K for the job.

Apparently, my opinion of what needs doing and what it's going to cost...is greatly misinformed.

LOL; I'll get one more quote, then decide.

The Shop on El Camino is Premier, and it's located at 3457 ECR. Material cost can very greatly ie Wilton wool vs nylon carpet, etc. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples....

The apples I'm comparing are cut pile nylon carpet, marine vinyl, and simple flat panels on doors, kicks. Stitched carpet, and a trunk liner. Nothing exotic. It's just more than I expected. Maybe I'm too cheap and expecting too much; I've been accused of that in the past. .

Byron - I'll touch base with my Cousin tonight to see if he has any other leads. He's located in SJ and just had some upholstery work (seat) done on his 32 ford.

I talked to my cousin tonight. He's a car nut and pretty connected to the hot rod scene in the bay area.

He said the gold standard for hot rodders is Sid Chavers (Brizio uses him for their cars).

A couple of other suggestions and people he's used:

- Bascom Trim and Upholstery (John Wardell sp?). My cousin is a service writer at Courtesy Chevrolet, and he mentioned that all of the major dealer use Bascom. Again, not the cheapest, but they produce solid work.

- ABC Upholstery on Kiely. He recently had the seat on his 32 Ford roadster done. They did a great job, but he said the lady who owns the place is less than friendly. The guys who do the work are solid craftsman. BTW - The seat alone was $700, which based his experience is the going rate.

The quote by Cooks isn't looking too bad.

I have a buddy with a Ferrari and he says that Bascom Trim and Upholstery is the best place around, although rather pricey. There was a thread a while ago that mentioned a little place almost next door to them that did very good work at more reasonable prices. When I get around to having my tonneau cover installed I'm going to take a drive around that area. Rich

The place next door is Sid Chaver's shop, across the parking lot to be exact.......I would go with Sid over Bascom anytime, not that Bascom is bad, they take good care of all of our City of Santa Clara work trucks! See the earlier post about the price difference I got for the dash cover.

Joe: Besides the installation of my tonneau cover, I am planning on having my seat lowered and modified to facilitate correct submarine belt installation. Do you do this kind of stuff? Rich
