For the Carroll Shelby role, I'd say Tom Hanks, but if they can't get him then Will Ferrell. ;)

Almost twenty years ago George Daamon Levy had a script going around Hollywood looking for a development deal. SAAC even published parts of the screenplay in the magazine.
Do you make it as biography, action film or a comedy? |
From MotorSports:
" Aston Martin is going back to LeMans on the 50th anniversary of its famous victory with Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby in the DBR1 " |

Or a Greek tragedy. |
The answer to this question may lie with the book "Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferarri, and their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans". On the left column of A.J. Baime's web site
http://golikehellthebook.com/ It says: "Published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Film rights purchased by 20th Century Fox." |
Hi Gene,
Good thread......Mel Gibson gets my vote; he has enough character lines in his face and could be retrograded to play the young Carroll. I too believe this would happen after he passes on and the media coverage brings him and his life into the public eye. Tim Robbins is also a good choice. Getting pretty tired of the coverage of Michael Jackson, there is a special corner in hell that was reserved for that the pedophile. Tony R. |

How about Richard Simmons as Carroll and cameo appearances by Keith Craft and Jack Roush. I can see it being a modern interpratation of the film "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World"
|
Tim Robbins would be good; they can dye his hair, because he's baby-faced, he can still look young, don't forget Shelby was already a WWII veteran and almost 40 when he started race driving. Though I like Ed Norton's talent, he probably is too short, as is Tom Cruise. Mel Gibson has the money to produce it but is too old to play anyone except the elder Shelby) Who would play the others significant in Shelby history?
Phil Remington? Dan Gurney? Pete Brock? Ken Miles? Lee Iacocca? Henry Ford II (maybe that Southernor who is in congress and also an actor) Enzo Ferrari? What would really be fun is casting real Shelby American alumni in bit roles like Pete Brock, John Morton,or even Peter Miles playing his dad etc. |
Tim Robbins??? What a poofter.

I am sure if it is picked up by Hollyweird, there will be car chases, explosions, some sort of gay love tryst and of course, the main middle aged white guys will be replaced by Samuel L. Jackson or Denzel Washington.
|
James Garner would be perfect to portray Shelby in later life and up to now.
|
Tom Waits would be great being cast as Carroll Shelby. Besides being a great singer/songwriter/storyteller with the gravel voice, he's been in several movies.
