Will there ever be a movie about Shelby?
I watched a movie about the life of the late Enzo Ferrari some time ago and it got me thinking. Do you think a movie will ever be made of Carroll Shelby's life?
He's certainly well known among the car crowds, but do you think there would be enough interest from the general public to make a film?
What actor would you give the nod to portray Shelby if a movie was ever made?

they'll make a movie after he passes and somehow he'll come back and sue'em, then they'll also make a movie about that.

Mod Note...
Tread carefully on this thread. It should not turn into a bashfest...OK?
The topic is a legitimate question for discussion.

Seems like it would make an interesting movie. It seems the best movies have a leading man that has personality conflicts, some admirable traits and a few not-so admirable sides to his personality. This would definitely fit the old man- he obviously has his admirers and his detractors.
I would think Anthony Hopkins, or Gene Hackman would make a great Shelby given a proper screen play and script, however it would need someone younger to handle the earlier parts of his life, especially the driving segments...

In the history of racing etc , it would seem there is enough material available and overall interest to make a feature length TV movie.
FYI.........@ Amazon as an example
Carroll Shelby: An Interview with the Snake
Format: DVD
$19.95

I too instanly thought about $$$ and SAI. (Need to stay positive)
That said I think that, if done right, it could be a great story and a keeper for all car buffs.
The use of original cars would be an added bonus as a historical record.

Well, who would have thought that they would make a movie out of the book "Money Ball" and have Brad Pitt play Billy Beane, the Oakland A's general manager/owner. However, I suppose sports-related stories will yield bigger audiences than car builder/racing legends.

I'd be happy to play the lead role if they can cast Jennifer Aniston as Shelby's wife!

I'm sure sometime after his passes on there will be a movie....there's a ton of material to do it with if you start from his early beginings......
I hereby give my notice to be one of the stunt drivers in the racing scenes, unpaid of course.... wouldn't that be coolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll................ .....

It's a shame he developed heart problems and had to end his career as a one hell of a race driver. I often wonder how many races he could have won. But then we wouldn't be driveing Cobras

MotorSport Magazine has an article on the Maserati 250F Grand Prix car. Drivers mentioned included Carroll Shelby along with John Fitch, Troy Ruttmann, Peter Collins, Hans Herrmann, Ivor Buch and " then there are the big boys: Fangio and Moss "

Actor for "Young Shelby"?
Edward Norton. Probably one of the best actors in the business these days.

Who will play the lawyer?
If the script writers stick to the earlier years when he was a hard racing legend, then they won't have to worry about that one.

I think the best movie so far is "Cobra-Ferrari Wars"... has interview of surviving drivers and fabricators and Shelby himself along with his wife.
Check it out on Amazon:

Tho I don't like his politics I think Tim Robbins could do a good job at playing the lead role: he's tall, and as charming as Shelby was back in the day, and successfully played a baseball player once. You'd have to dye his hair, though, as I think he's gone grey. Or maybe Matthew McConaughey because he's a Texan so wouldn't have to fake the accent but maybe he's better looking than Shelby was during his race driving career. There'd have to be several female leads on account of 5-6 wives (some dispute about this, according to an article in Vanity Fair, Shelby doesn't count the wife he married and divorced in Mexico). If there could be a movie about some crazy New Zealander wanting to set a land speed record on his motorcycle, there could be a movie about Shelby. A good director could be Michael Mann who had good actions sequences in
Heat , Miami Vice and The Aviator
I can recommend a couple books to base it on...

I guess actor placement would be based on financing, so hopefully they get some A class $. I am sick and tired of explaining who Carroll is to people under 40.
My Vote : a Computer generated Jim Garner.
