Default Heads

Hope you guys can help..

My SBC has 882 heads and all of the books I have read on improving heads don't provide any detail about the 882...

I am looking at pulling the heads off and sending them to the machine shop..

Suggestions on how to improve them for street performance?...

Default I also had the 882

and after some research, found out that they a are late 70's model for trucks and some performance cars.

After reading up on the potential for these heads, talking to the performance shop in town, and figuring the cost to modify, I came to the conclusion that for a little more $$, I could get the Dart Iron Eagles. They wanted me to go aluminum to save weight, but I really don't want to take anymore weight off the front of my already light car. The Darts will perform just as well for a lot less.

Anyway they came in last week from Summit, and look great. Can't wait to fire 'em up.

Hello MoonDog 65Blur is wright 882 Heads make good heads for a grocery getter you could spend money on 2.02 &1.600 valves but that is like puting a 1050 cfm carb on a 350 motor you just can't get the air down the 170-180 cc intake runners even with massive port work you might get 190cc runners befor you run into push rod hole the best thing going is the vortex heads for factory but if it were me I would go with a set of Iron Eagle or Dart in the 200cc runner that would put you in the 4500-6000 breathing range or the 215cc up to 7000 on a 350" with not to mutch loss on the bottom end.

Check out www.airflowresearch.com. best heads available for any carbed motor, IMHO.

Moondog, I have been racing SBC for years on oval dirt track and you can break the bank building a set of heads. 65blur has made a good suggestion, Dart makes a very good product and I know from experience that they work well. If you want to stick with factory stuff 461/462 castings (camelbacks) work well with a little work. Bowtie angle plug heads also work well. Early 90's 305 rollerheads build good torque and flow pretty well for a little less money. Just a few ideas, later
