Cobra valve covers for chev. small block?

Does anyone know where I might find cobra valve covers for a small block chevy? Thanks, Jim

I was wondering the same a while back , seems like youd have to get some made :)

I can suggest two alternatives:

1. Edelbrock used to make (maybe they still do) a classic, finned valve cover for SB Chevys that had the 'Edelbrock' script in the middle. The hard part is finding some that have provisions for breather caps/PCV valves, as they were originally designed for the early SBC that had a front breather tube jutting out from the intake.

2. 1969-1973 Corvette/Camaro "LT-1" valve covers. Classic finned aluminum design with a nice cross-flags applique to one side. Has provisions for breathers/PCV. You could have a local graphics company do you up some vinyl "Cobra" logo and glue it over the same location. Or cut yourself a thin piece of aluminum/tin, take a Cobra hood/trunk emblem, grind off the mounting tangs, and epoxy to the tin. Then epoxy the tin to the cover. Done.

Just be careful of the funny looks you get at the next car show. %/

You can get such a thing, these ones I bought in England years ago and they were made in China. Best bet, I reckon, is to use the real Ford ones and an adapter plate.

When Ron Butler was building Cobras he had adapters approx 1" high to allow any SB Ford cover to fit a SB Chev, used to make the chevys go better too!
Might be worth checking out who made them.

Sacrilege!

These guys sell the adapter you are looking for. Allows any SBF valve cover to be installed on a Chevy small block.

International

How about COBRA covers for my International Scout? Any help?

The best way I know of the get 'Cobra' valve covers to fit an engine in a Cobra is to use the correct engine in the first place. Of course my has pentroofs.

JGC, "correct engine" like a fuel injected 302 perhaps or maybe a 1965 aluminum 427 FE?

blykins 09-19-2007 04:08 PM

Yeah, it's funny that everyone thinks it's perfectly fine to put a Chevy engine in a Cobra.....but when someone does this, the Chevy guys just wanna strangle someone...

JGC 09-19-2007 05:05 PM

Hey Karl,

I know, 302's or aluminum FE's aren't exactly right, but at least I don't have an issue with valve covers. I guess if you want a different engine it is fine, but then why would you want that engine to look like a Ford.

On a completely different tack, has anyone ever put a Jag 12 cylinder in a chevy, preferably a Corvette. And yes I know a Jag has been put in a Cobra.

Lightingrod 09-29-2007 07:20 PM

I recall seeing mag ads 10-15 years ago with knock-off "Powered by Ford" covers for SBC! Sorry, can't remember who or where!

And oh yes, Ford guys who keep piping in, just wait til the LS motors start to hit their stride!  Of course you guys do have the 4.6, nudge, nudge, wink, wink!

I've just ordered a pair of aluminium valve covers with the Cobra script for my SBC powered cobra from JRV8 here in England. They do a laser cut adaptor plate. I wouldn't want 'powered by Fraud' on them but I do like the finned, scripted valve covers and the Edelbrock items they will replace are very poor quality and let the otherwise very nice engine bay down.

When it's looking pretty I'm going to source a supercharger - pointers anyone?

I liked the Vortech kit I had on my BBC truck! Way, Way more fun on the street than is legal! This is an old 454SS and I have had 4 different engines in it. Only the stock engine had less hp, @ 230, a 578hp 496 and I now have a 640hp 572. The Vortech was on a very mild 454, GM 781 iron heads with stock valves TBI Edelbrock cam, heck it was still using the stock GM TBI. BUT the TORQUE! It would run a 13.00 right off the street, shifting @ 4500 rpm and it's a 5000# truck! Want me to smoke the tires, in what gear?

Many, many Mustangs and LS Camaros (most) were left wondering what the heck happened! On the other hand if you wanted to play nice it ran, drove and got the same mpg as stock!

Hello, I am new to the club, just purchased a replica Cobra and want to touch up a few things.

I have a Chevy small block and wonder if somebody has SBC to SBF valve cover adapter plates for sale or knows where I can get them. I have been searching the forums..and I cannot find anybody that has them in stock or still makes them.

Thanks!

That was my thought, exactly! You can "fix" the name on the valve covers, but you can't relocate that distributor to the correct end of that engine, no way!!!

Cheers!
