Default VA Registration Problems

I finished my ERA Cobra but I'm having trouble getting it registered with vintage plates. The title lists the car as a 1965. But both the DMV in Richmond and Franconia say the computer won't allow vintage plates on a car less than 25 years old.

I'm guessing that the problem might be that on the title under "other pertinent data", it lists "IND Replica 2010".

Any thoughts on how I can get this resolved so I can use vintage 1965 plates?

Here's a quote from a Virginia based site. There's a year old law in Virginia that officially recognizes replicas and allows it to be titled in the year that it represents.

"The law defines a replica as a vehicle not fully constructed by a licensed manufacturer but either constructed or assembled from components. The measure allows these vehicles to be titled and registered under the model year of which the vehicle is a replica and only requires that they meet safety and emissions requirements as established for that model year. As a condition of the hobby-friendly emissions system and safety equipment requirements, replica vehicles titled under this law will be limited to no more than 5,000 miles per year as shown by the vehicle's odometer. The new law recognizes the unique nature of these vehicles as hobbyist cars that are generally only used for occasional transportation, exhibitions, club activities, parades and tours."

Thanks for the response. I've seen that information, and everyone at the DMV agrees that I should be allowed to do it. But their computer rejects it. No one at the DMV has told me how to proceed.
