I have RCC tubular A-arms with Avo coil overs and used the extension stud on top of the shock. I’ve heard of cutting and welding but that’s the first one I’ve seen

Doesn't that flip the compression/rebound valving in the shock, does it cause ride issues?

No. Compression is still compression; extension (rebound) is still extension.
